Focal 2x Alpha 65 6.5" Active 2-Way Near Field Professional Monitoring Speaker, 105W Power

I'm blown away by these monitors.. they really are the best-in-class for this price range in my opinion (maybe even higher when compared to the A7X that I tested alongside for almost twice the price).Extremely accurate and easy on the ear with no fatigue. I was concerned about the lows not being up to par, but they are plenty, tight, and well articulated! I may eventually get a subwoofer just to rumble a bit, but I don't consider it necessary so it will likely be a far away purchase. Mids are clear and not muddy at all. Highs are extremely, extremely detailed and separated. The soundstage is phantasmal and seems to expand further (meaning I can have my monitors in many different positions and still experience the effect) than most monitors I've used or tested in the past.Front-ported bass serves my space extremely well and this was one of few options with that form factor out there. The Focal 65's look amazing in my studio and the white lights on the front to indicate power add a smidge of swag. They need a change in signal to power on, meaning you can't just send a signal and have them start playing--you must increase the amplification a bit for them to register and power up.. and they turn themselves back off after ~30 minutes of not being used. This featured scared me at first, but only after a week I realized how much of a plus it is (vs. having to turn them off manually or having them suck up power while unused or accidentally exploding my ears when switching outbound sound sources as I'm forced to check my interface's volume dial).I've had them for about 2.5 months now and I've deemed them my best purchase of the past two years.

If you want a first rate monitor that won't break the bank this is it. It is not longer the current model, but was once the reference model in Focal's near field monitor lineup. I have owned other powered monitors but nothing with the accuracy and range that these can produce. My main stereo system is about $50K and there are times I hear things through the Focals that are missing on the reference system. They are large and heavy for monitors with a 6.5" woofer so be prepared to accommodate that. I had to get new stands to support them (I got the IsoAcoustics desktop isolation stands) but they are worth the effort to get them setup properly. I think they may be my last powered monitors.

Auditioned many monitors of varying sizes. Kali LP Presonus Eris. JBL. Adam. Adam was closest but ultimately bought the Focals.

Amazing amazing amazing. I’ve been to a lot of studios and have used many speakers. These monitors are hands down the best bang for the buck.

Best studio monitors on the planet for this price range. No doubt. Its a little better than Yamaha HS7 or HS8 that many people sadly purchase. But if you critically analyze mutiple types of music from a wide diversity of genres for hours you will soon realize these are better than any other brand out there in 2018. Only wish they looked a bit more attractive but dont let that fool you. They are underestimated across the world in music shops by many inexperienced people and even experienced sound engineers. If i had a lot more money then i would buy the focal shape series or adams high end or genelecs, but these are the next best thing. The bass response is also so clean and sufficient, almost or extremely close to other 8 inch speakers like hs8, but really makes up in clarity and i dont need the 2 hz difference and if i did i would get real with subwoofers. Maybe for movie sound effects production or miami bass music. Otherwise for edm or hiphop or other low frequency music this is totally sufficient. Thanks Focal for making these affordable.

I love these monitors! I've tried a lot of different audio monitors managing a post production facility. For me, these are the top in their price range and beat some in higher price ranges (as of 2017 at least). They have a richness to them and don't produce as much ear fatigue as some of their "sharper" sounding competitors. Their bass depth is great, both spec-wise and subjectively. Their frequency response starts at 40Hz, so I think they're fine without a sub-woofer for many use cases. I'd treat them more like an 8" speaker in this regard. There are lots of great sounding monitors these days, but I'd take these over the Adam A7Xs, Yamaha HS8s, JBL 308s....

These powerful monitors stood out of the line i've been testing. Deep, rich lows going into sub drone warmth. Not just ears, the whole body experience. Clean, crisp, strong 3-dimensional sound all together. Very satisfied with this investment.
