The size of the blade and the guide combs means the length of the hair that can be left on your dog after a grooming. For example, if you use the blade with 1.0(mm) and the 12mm guide comb together, that it will leave 1.0mm + 12mm = 13mm long hair on your dog. If you use the blade with 1.0 (mm) and don't use a guide comb, that the hair will be shortened to 1.0mm only.
