New Opinel No 8 first impressions
This is my third Opinel No 8 and I have found them to be a simple, robust, well made and durable knife.I have not given 5* as on this occasion I opted for the Oak handle which looked attractive in photographs but in reality, on the example I received, is probably not as good as the standard Beech handle on my previous knives. Opening/closing and locking actions are also currently very stiff but may ease with time and use. Edge as provided is good but this blade is stainless steel and my personal experience has been that the carbon steel blades will take and keep a better edge, but there is the obvious downside. This is a good size for a "working" pocket knife but technically this knife may be illegal if carried casually in the pocket without a justified, work related purpose/reason.

Excellent track knife.
Bought this knife as friend has one already and recommended. Ended for campervan travels and hasn’t disappointed. Blade folds into handle for safe and compact storage. When in use, metal rim slides round to secure blade in place.Blade cuts well.Very happy with purchase.

Really nice.
Very nice knife, solid feel, love the wooden handle. Yes, the blade can be stiff to extract, but I would rather have it that way than loose. The tip from the manufacturer on releasing the blade works perfectly. Super sharp and easy to lock in and out. For the price its excellent (1/3 cheaper than stores like go outdoors for example).

Craftsmanship and Quality
I fell in love with this knife as soon as I held it in my hand. The construction is solid and the blade is lovely to use. I have not owned an Opinel knife before but am glad to have this one in my backpack for hiking. The blade need need a little honing when it arrived but I was happy for that and expected it. The packaging is also very good - enough to keep it clean and protected during transit, but made of cardboard and not so much of it to be wasteful or excessive. I know this knife is going to give me years of use, I can feel it as I hold it and work with it. I may even invest in another of different size, to take on a long distance hike I have coming up.
