Violent & radical
I bought the book as it was compulsory for a yoga course I did.I found the book offensive and radical. A third of the book is introduction just so it can be explained that it is not that radical but I let you decide:First chapter - King Arjuna has some ethical issues about going to war for power saying: 'we are about to commit a great evil by killing our own kinsmen, because of our greed for the pleasure of kingship. It would be better if Dhritarashtra's men killed me in battle, unarmed and unresisting.'Krishna's answer: Why this timidity [...] It is unworthy of a noble mind, it is shameful and does not lead to heaven. This cowardice is beneath you, Arjuna, do not give in to it. Shake off your weakness. Stand up now like a man. Krishna spent the rest of the chapter explaining why it was ok to kill.Krishna also spends several chapters saying he should be worshipped, he also insulted women for potentially making peace with the 'enemy' if allowed which shows corrupted mind and thinks women should be controlled. This sentence came up a couple of times: 'it is better to do your own duty badly, than to perfectly do another's; you are safe from harm when you do what you should be doing.' ...So basically the 'blessed Lord' says do as you are told!!!The book also insults those 'without faith'. So the ones who do not worship Krishna. They will go to hell and all the good and the charity those people do is worthless. The point it makes is that it doesn't matter how you live your life, if you do not worship Krishna You are evil!!!It says in chapter 9: 'Even the heartless of criminals, if he loves me with all his heart (??) will certainly grow into sainthood. ...Then a bit later: Even the LOWEST of low: prostitutes, beggars, slaves.... [!!!!!!!!!!] The values here are clear. It is better to be a murderer than a be a slave. The book finishes by the king saying: 'Krishna, I see the truth now by your immeasurable kindness. I have no more doubts. I will act according to your command.'The End.
