Q: Is this Gum Arabic, for mixing it with pigments to make watercolors ?

Gum Arabic is water soluble. As a binder, all you would need to do is get it to dissolve in water. Let it evaporate to the consistency you want before mixing it with pigments. If it is not fine enough, a pestal and morter can pulverize it a bit more. Gum Arabic is Gum Arabic.

The package says Arabic Powder, Acacia species. If there is an origin, it's covered by amazon's label on the bottom left.

I am ignorant about preparing paints or watercolors. I purchased this product to make incense. However, I can see it well suited for this purpose. It would make watercolors thicker so you could apply more pigment with each stroke. It would make the pigments stick much better to any canvas or paper. It has a long enough curing time that a mixed batch of pigment would not instantly solidify, yet it would not run and eventually dry in hours to be rigid enough it would not smudge. The powder is very finely ground so it would mix very well without causing globs. If it is normal to use gum for watercolors, I think this product would work exceptionally well.
