Chromex Tankless Heater Descaler Kit - Just Add Vinegar or Your Own Descaler

Why did you pick this product vs others?:I have a Rinnai tankless water heater. It needs to be flushed every few years. If you hire someone to do that, it will cost you $150 or more.I can use this over and over. 4 gallons of white vinegar cost $16. After flushing my unit once, it paid for itself.Flushing is easy. You can download a DIY video if you want to be walked through the process.

This kit worked flawlessly with clear instructions. The bucket is sized perfectly for the job and the pedestal screen at the bottom allows particles to sink as opposed to recirculate.My suggestion to all. The directions do not state to do this. However, after you complete your descale, I would suggest rinsing and filling your bucket with clean water and allowing your pump to circulate to flush any descale out. I've seen other pump reviews (not this one) that only lasted a couple of flushes before rusting out. Descale is harsher than just water. Flushing pump with fresh water after your Descale will certainly prolong its life

I have a tankless water heater and haven’t had a water softener for over a year. IYKYK!!! Scale would build up very fast in my water heater and clog up my faucets!! I have used this pump with two gallons of straight white vinegar. After letting it run for about 30 minutes all the scale inside the water heater is gone and I’m normally good for another 6 weeks. I highly recommend this pump. It comes with the hoses needed and full instructions how to use it. (Don’t pour the used vinegar in the grass it’ll kill it. 🤦‍♂️).

Based on previous reviews, I had confidence in this pump working compared to some competitors and it worked great - exactly as expected and no problems.I ordered this one because I liked the idea of having the (red) grate to lift the pump off from getting any sediment that may have come out. I also like having 2 different colored hoses to make sure I have everything connected correctly (hoses looked different than in the picture - came with stainless steel with red/blue streaks embedded in it).I ordered the option without any cleaner and I heard vinegar works just as well and is less expensive. I was wondering if I'd need a 3rd gallon of vinegar because of the pump being raised by the grate but 2 gallons of vinegar was sufficient with my Navien Tankless and the length hoses provided.Biggest complaint (and reason for the 4 stars only) is opening the dang thing. It has this blue plastic wrap that you have to remove to get the lid off and that was incredibly difficult. Ended up using a razor edge but that didn't work well so needed to get some work scissors that helped but ended up slightly injuring myself getting the dang thing off.Personally, I wanted to have a bucket that had a screw top, so I purchased a separate item to connect on top of this bucket to make it have a screw top.Overall, after looking at several options, I had the most confidence in this product and am happy with my decision.

It was very straightforward and easy to use. I recommend using the water heater's instructions instead of their simplified ones, as there may be extra steps such as draining, turn it off, turning off the gas, cleaning filters, etc.Overall it saved me hundreds of dollars off the bat and will continue to save me money every year. Excellent.After my last water heater failed and flooded my house, costing me tons of money, I'm going to use this often.

This Chromex kit worked perfectly. I used distilled food grade cleaning vinegar, 6% acidity, which I found at Wal-Mart (this accords with Rinnai’s instructions on their website to use virgin food grade distilled cleaning vinegar). I also reviewed the YouTube video “Rinnai Flush Routine,” and following that, it all went smoothly.

I paid a plumber $300 to maintain my tankless waterheater about two years ago. I bought this to save money this time. It was extremely easy and in saved me money. I would recommend it to anyone who is capable of DIY projects.
