My dye of choice for vegetable tanned leather
This is my dye of choice for coloring vegetable tanned leather projects. It can be applies with a wool dauber, sheepskin, or brush, and also with an airbrush which gives you superior control of color density. It is much more economical than buying the small bottles if you do a lot of projects. This is a professional quality dye and is easy to apply ( daubers are the simplest method). The leather must be sealed after the dye has dried.

A great product and far superior to water-based dyes
This is great dye. I am glad I finally purchased a larger sized container as I don't feel like I'm going to run out in the middle of a project. I pour it up into the 4 ounce container I had previously purchased and work out of the smaller bottle and refill it as needed. This minimizes the number of times I open out the big bottle.Coverage is great and can full black can often be achieved in one coat, depending of prep, leather and a few other factors. I will say that since this dye is spirit based, it will dry out and actually shrink the leather if you do not pre-treat the leather with something like neatsfoot oil. I was making a bag strap from two pieces of leather to be sewn together. I stained both but only pre-treated one of them with neatfoot oil. The results on the untreated one were two-fold: there were white streaks in the leather and it had shrunk to the point that I will have to trim the treated piece down to fit the untreated piece. Since it was just a strap, that is not that big of a deal but if it had been something that needed to mate up to another in maybe a bag or other article, that could be quite disappointing. There are proper ways of mitigating such as dying before cutting, pre-treating with neatsfoot oil, etc but just realize that shrinkage can occur. I did apply neatsfoot oil after the fact on that shrunken piece and the white marks went away (just a product of drying out the leather) and now all is good there. With this dye, I'm able to wash out daubers for a while with warm water and soap and reuse them for about 5-10 times before needing to replace them.I use Resolene and some other finishing products at the end and it all comes out looking great. My wife doesn't like it when I use this dye in the house but she sure likes her all-custom heavy duty leather computer messenger bag!

Easy to use.
This leather dye gets the job done. I have been using this leather dye for decades, I have tried other brands but none compare with Fiebings Pro dye. Saddles, chaps, wallets, shoes, boots, etc., it does a great job. WARNING: make sure you want to dye your leather object BLACK before you start because there is no way to revearse the process once you dye it with this dye.It penetrates quickly and deeply.

Best dye on the market
Fiebings pro dye is the best leather dye on the market. I have been working with leather for over 40 years and have tried every dye on the market and none are as good as Fiebings. Black leather dye is known to have rub off after it dries and is a issue with any manufacturers dye but it is a lot less of a issue with the Fiebings pro dye and once it is sealed with resolene or tan coat you dont have to worry about it anymore. The other issue with black dyes is the green flim you get with other dyes including the regular Fiebings black dye but that is nonexistent with the pro dye.

Excellent coverage and even dyeing
I use Fiebings pro dye almost exclusively because it’s excellent quality. Good coverage. Good color and can be applied many different ways: rag, sponge, air brush, dip dyeing.
