Q: Can you actually switch these off permanently when required? Or can you only use them with the timer set?

There is a little black on/off switch in the base of the tea light. Once switched on it stays on for 6 hours unless switched off. So, yes, these can be switched off permanently. I love these tea lights - they make perfect night lights.

Q: Can these be left outside in the garden?

They aren't floating tealights so I would say no - I use these on the table and bring them in when I come in - I have solar lights in the garden which stay out all the time.

Q: How bright are these (approx. lumen rating)?

Can't give lumen rating, however they are similar to 'real ' tealights, I find them very effective.

Q: Are these made of white plastic or are they cream?

The tea lights are cream and I have to say very authentic and love them!!!!
