AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE:VOLUME 1 (DVD)

Aquateen is a riot.

The many risqué misadventures of Shake, Frylock, and Meatwad have finally been put on DVD and made available to the masses, and while every episode is crystal clear w/ exceptionally good sound, the special features are lacking. Along with the 16 episodes of the first two seasons the special features consist of: The original director's cut of "Rabbot", commentary on "Rabbot, "Space Conflict from Beyond Pluto" & Mayhem of the Mooninites", and never-before-seen-footage. With all these features it'd be insane to say it dulls the quality of the DVD... right? Wrong.While it was interesting to listen to the creator commentary I felt that it just wasn't enough because there were many instances where the creators would just stay silent for a few minutes and not say anything, which left me feeling a little awkward. At times the intervals would be so long that it would seem as if you were merely re-watching the episode w/ the volume turned down, and I found that to be very disappointing. Other than this, the only other noticeable flaw I found was that some of the curse words were edited out in the episodes which I found to be outrageous. Though I can sit through these side-splitting episodes without having to hear fowl language, I had previously read from other reviews that these episodes contained scenes and situations (i. e. language usage) that was cut off the Adult Swim broadcast. Needless to say after reading this and having seen that the language had still been cut out, I felt that I had been ripped off a bit.Aside from these two shortcomings, the DVD is great overall and the price from Amazon cannot be beaten. I would recommend this DVD to any person who loved ATHF on Adult Swim as it does bring back memories from old episodes. The navigability is impressively easy and there isn't much "red tape" to have to go through to get to what you really want to see when you buy a DVD. All in all, these episodes will leave anyone with a sense of humor rolling on the floor laughing time and time again, and in my opinion, is an absolute must for everyone's DVD collection.

When I first saw this show advertised I thought it was the dumbest thing ever, the tv guide described it as a show about three food products: a milkshake, a carton of fries and meatball who fight crime.But, it only took that first episode to get me hooked, it's absurd and hilarious, unlike anything I've seen before or since. In the first couple episodes they do seem to be sort of detectives, but then they just seem to elapse into three guys (who aren't really teens) who hang around. They rent a house, with two bedrooms, no bathroom. They swim in their sweat-pants wearing neighbor, Carl's pool (without his permission) who's had his house up for sale ever since they've moved in.Frylock (the french fry) is the smartest, kind of like a father, or big brother to Master Shake and Meatwad. Master Shake (my favourite character) is the smart-ass. He's greedy and always coming up with schemes and picking on poor Meatwad, who's the dumbest (yet cutest). While they're hanging out at home, they encounter inter-galactic villians, who are usually really stupid. Like Emory and Oglethorpe who came once to steal the Aqua Teen's cable. The Mooninites, The Digital Ruler, Inignot and his sidekick Err(who live on the moon)are recurrent characters, real egomaniacs who are always claiming their superiority, when they're generally very cowardly. The show is well written, really funny and very unique. One of the only shows that has made me laugh out loud. Thank you Amazon for having them available, great price too! (at least I think so)

This is my current favorite DVD series. It's so absurd a premise and so beyond the pale of most cartoon series out there these days, that it has infinite appeal to both my sixteen year old son and to me. Our dynamic trio and their next door Jersey neighbor, the tank top wearing Carl, are the funniest toon characters in Television land. That's saying a lot as television is currently witnessing a true renaissance of cartoon humor.The creators are the same crew that brought us the equally silly, but cutting edge SPACEGHOST COAST TO COAST. The same sort of hip, off colour humor that informed that show is at play here, only more so. My favorite segment involves a manic depressive, deadbeat, suicidal doll who has a negative, lifeforce-draining impact on all who come in contact with him. Other highlights include a pair of aliens who look as if they've escaped from some crude '70s Atari game. The punk talking little alien, err, is particularly amusing.Of the three main characters, my favorite is Meatwad, the mush mouthed, single toothed meatball, whose speech is almost unintelligble, but who is delightfully, stupidly impressionable.If you're in the mood for some absolutely mindless, but hysterically hip comic relief, give this DVD set a try. The extras aren't that much to write home about, but no contemporary toon buff should be without this two disc set in his/her collection.If you have a sensibilty that is as warped as mine is, and you enjoy The Simpsons, South Park, Beavis and Butthead, The Family Guy, etc., I'm certain that you will enjoy this anti-superhero trio.BEK

I read the review by the guy who only gave 1 star, he totally and completely missed the point! The plot lines are shallow, deliberately, the characters are mental, the animation and graphics are deliberately patchy, southpark is the example of how that can work.To enjoy athf, turn off your brain, sit back, relax and let shake, meatwad and fryman take you to places you never dreamt of!100% original.

I highly recommend this set. Definitely worth it.

I finally know why there was so much fun behind this show. It's addicted and hilarious!

Great series, the DVDs only get better from here.
