Expensive but well worth it. They made very easy work of tapping into bright steel, which is 3/4” thick. I tried them both on a lathe and by hand, both of which were effortless, the 7th hole cutting as easily as the first. I’d previously tried the same with a tap from a cheap set and even the lathe wouldn’t cut past 1/4”.

The usual dormer quality at a great price. Although these are generally mor expensive than others, they will always outlast & outperform anything else. I use thread taps almost daily at work & when used with tapping grease these will last for years. I always end up snapping them using them in a right angle drill, in an awkward position, at arms length before they go blunt anyway!

This review is for Dormer E500 M4.5x0.75 High Speed Steel taps. These are superb taps. You can't go wrong with Dormer. I've bought a lot of these to fill in gaps in my set of tap sizes. If you only buy them when you have a particular project you'll have to pay full price. Instead, watch for bargain prices and buy when they are low, because the prices fluctuate considerably over time. Gradually, you can build a complete set at a fraction of the normal price. Even lower than the price of set of cheap taps, but you'll have high-quality ones instead. Just be patient--these are worth the extra effort.
