Worked great!
I loved shifting with this little shifter while I had my Porsche. Fits perfectly and installs easily. Too bad someone blew the engine on it a few weeks later...

Best upgrade ever
Best thing you can do to your boxster!!!!! It's the little things that count makes the car feel like a true sports car. The stock shifter is horrible at best this shifter is tight and precise. Now this does need to be "modified" to install but its 60bux what do you want.On mind the circlips wouldn't fit when installed the shifter pivots needed to be shortened, aka ground down on a bench grinder. And the blue shifter portion needed to be "contoured" aka ground down on the bench top grinder. Both of these were easy fixes. Worth ever penny a must install!!!!!! No reason to pay big bux this one works just as good. And.... The shifter takes more effort to move but that's what happens when you move the fulcrum point no way around physics

Disappointment....
Overall with modifications to this assembly and your car; it will work. Showed up assembled backward. Had to modify one of the bearing shafts was too long. Also had to dremel out some plastic on the cars assembly to make it fit. All it all it works but I think not worth all that effort to buying a name brand one. ALSO the bend on the shifter is wrong degrees so your choice is either your shifter sits extremely to the left, or awkwardly slightly right.... 2 stars cause well it technically works and the throw feels good but I wouldnt have bought it again knowing what I know now.

Great product for the price!
I went with 5 stars because this completely changed the way my gear shifts feel! So much more notchy and the perfect amount of throw. Got rid of a lot of slop and made me fall in love with my 996 all over again. Does 5 stars mean best money can buy? Nope. Is it good quality and a huge upgrade for our tired OEM shifters? Absolutely. Some good install instructions would make this a 6 star product. If I bought a 996 again this would be the first mod I spent money on.

Good value for the money
I originally installed my new shifter in backwards. I knew there was a right way and a wrong way but it’s opposite of what one might think. I thought the tilt should be towards me but after I got it installed and everything back together it looked strange. The shifter needs to tilt away from you or it looks out of place. I also found the statements about having to remove washers hidden behind the plastic sleeves very useful. I could not get the c-clips that hold the shifter in place of the housing without first removing the washers tucked behind the plastic sleeves. Once I took those out it went together fairly quickly. No grinding or cutting was needed. My Boxster had a Schnell shifter installed from the previous owner so my install was slightly different then dealing with all OEM parts but that’s trivial info to the rest of the world. Now as far as how the new one compares with what I had it’s much better. The slop I had side to side has been greatly reduced. And the shifts seem to be much more precise. Kinda what I’d imagine what the car felt when new or the way it should have been. For $60ish I spent I’d say it’s one of the better mods I’ve done on my 2000 2.7 Boxster. Hope you find the same results as I have.

Must Make Alterations
As written about by others, the shifter will work, but you must remove one white bushing and discard the washer that is under it for the shifter to fit in the housing. Then, the lever was tilted to the left when the original is tilted to the right, so you must undo the nuts and reverse the lever tilt.

You get what you pay for…modification required.
I figured these all look the same and they must come from the same factory in China. Looking back at it you can tell from the photo there are a couple of differences. The bushings and hardware to keep them in place looks different. That was 90% of the problem as they DID NOT FIT. Much like another review I found that sanding down the bushing end helped to make it fit enough to insert the C clip. This took a lot of time to realize and then more time to actually sand. Once I got it in the car and reassembled the center console it became obvious that the shift lever was installed backwards at the factory (poor quality control). Luckily I was able to loosen the bolt holding it in, pull up and twist to turn around without having to remove the console again.Once modified and fitted I found that I had invested way to much time but felt satisfied that I made it work.It works well, a bit notchy, but definitely an improvement over stock. Hopefully it holds up.Before you buy, ask yourself if you have the time to spend on this, if not buy a better unit.
