Pretty Good
It's a very nice book with good instructions and some decent artwork. There's not really much to say beyond that. If you want an RPG with vampire protagonists that doesn't come across as a bad Twilight clone, then this is a good book. Although, I would recommend checking out the anniversary addition, seeing as that one is reported to have better artwork and slightly more balanced rules.

if you love the game, you want the book
It came in great condition for a used book, and it's really nice to have a hard copy in hardback of such an iconic RP book.Has all the core rules you'll need to get started, and an overview of the clans and society.

An accessible and well-illustrated corebook for a streamlined role-playing game
Vampire: The Masquerade - 5th Edition, better known as "V5", is the latest edition of the popular urban dark fantasy tabletop role-playing game called Vampire: The Masquerade. In this game, players create and portray human characters who have become vampires or "Kindred" as they prefer to call themselves. As Kindred, your primary objective is to feed on living blood in order to survive while, at the same time, not revealing your true nature to mankind. All Kindred are bound by the unwritten rule called the "Masquerade" which is enforced by the worldwide vampiric organisation known as the Camarilla to protect all vampires from the watchful eyes of mankind, namely the vampire-hunting Second Inquisition. At the same time, the Camarilla face fierce competition with their rival sect, the rebellious Anarch Movement, who stand to threaten their status quo and pyramid scheme. In these dark modern nights, both the Camarilla and the Anarch Movement are literally going for each other's throats, fighting over power, territory and everything else under the stars. Thus, whether your characters side with the conservative Camarilla or the liberal Anarchs is entirely up to you. Either way, be prepared for a game full of thrills, chills, spills and kills as you fight for both your unlife and your place in the world of darkness. This corebook for the latest edition of Vampire: The Masquerade offers over 400 accessible and well-illustrated pages covering twelve chapters full of lore, rules and mechanics for both players and Storytellers alike. In the first two chapters, the book introduces the premise, history and objective(s) of the game in simple, straight-to-the-point terms. The third chapter introduces each of the seven playable Kindred clans along with their histories, cultures, archetypes, strengths and weaknesses. The fourth chapter describes the basic rules of the game such as how in-game time passes and how dice rolls are made. It also states that Storytellers are free to change the rules however they see fit as long as it makes their games fun and enjoyable for themselves and their players. The fifth chapter tells you everything you need to know about creating your characters and using their stats in the game. The sixth chapter discusses all the facts and mechanics about vampirism, namely the Hunger dice which you must add to your rolls when your characters reach a certain level of Hunger. The seventh chapter lists every last Discipline and Discipline power and describes how they work. The eighth chapter offers more advanced rules for Storytellers to flesh out their games with. The ninth, tenth and eleventh chapters offer advice and guidance on how to run their own games. And, finally, the twelfth chapter offers a number of loresheets for players and Storytellers to use so that their characters relate to the overarching metaplot of the game.I've owned this book for two and a half years and I've used it both as a player and a Storyteller. And, personally, I find it much easier to use and refer to than the corebook for Vampire: The Masquerade - 20th Anniversary Edition (otherwise known as "V20"). I also think the new Hunger and Blood Potency systems for V5 are simpler and more fun to work around than with the Blood Pool system in V20. Therefore, I would definitely recommend this game to tabletop gamers who are new to Vampire: The Masquerade and the World of Darkness. However, much to the frustration of many long-time players and Storytellers of previous editions, this corebook tends to simplify most of its rules and lore at the cost of certain information that was sadly left out for future books to cover. Therefore, if you're hoping to play as one of the other six clans besides the main seven such as the Banu Haqim, the Ministry or the Tzimisce, you'll be deeply disappointed because they're not covered in this book. Therefore, you'll have to shop for the other V5 books in physical and/or digital form. All in all, I think this is a very accessible and well-illustrated corebook for a streamlined role-playing game despite its oversimplicity and vagueness here and there.

One of the best games for storytelling
Vampire is one of the most flexible games out there, lending itself well to politics, intrigue, investigation, high drama, horror and fights that wouldn't be out of place in the Matrix or Kill Bill. As a vampire you are an undead monster that now feeds from the people you used to be, whilst still pretending to be human. Question is, can you keep your monstrous urges in check, bend them to your will or will your thirst just consume you?The D10 system is very straightforward and intuitive, involving nothing more than counting, and allowing for varying degrees of success. The pairing of an attribute and an ability is easy to 'guess' on the fly when you don't want to interupt the flow of the game and look in a rule book. You definitely don't need a spreadsheet to keep a track of everything.Although this book is all you need to play the game, there a lot of source books out there to provide inspiration. All of them, including this book, are full of gorgeous artwork and small snippets of fiction to help immerse you into the atmosphere.
