an amazing book. not only does it tell you about the first anime ever created but it fills you in on the mere paintings that were dated back centuries that emphasized anime today....that made anime what it is today. along with this there is so much information on everything from drawing styles to actuals break downs of backgrounds to nick-nacks on characters such as tattoos..... one book that i still have since buying it a couple years ago.

Purchased for my daughter who love Manga. She loves to draw and this book seems perfect for helping her learn the ins and outs of drawing manga.

My daughter checked this out from the library to help her learn to draw manga, renewing it over and over again, until finally I broke down and agreed to buy a copy for her to keep. Although it's expensive, it really is worth the price - not only because it's a thick, oversized hardback book, but also because it's really thorough. I've purchased or checked out from the library a wide variety of drawing manuals for her, but this one is special for several reasons. First, it's comprehensive, starting with how to do basic figure drawing, faces, hands, action poses etc. - then on to clothes, weapons - then backgrounds, perspective, and more. The middle section discusses the tools of the trade - pens and nibs needed for sketching and inking your artwork. The final section of the book goes into great depth on how to transfer your drawing to a computer, and use a computer for coloring, breaking the process down step by step. Because of the variety of material covered, this could be helpful for anyone from a beginner to a more experienced artist. Highly recommended!
