A difficult read, but invaluable resource
Intending to read this book for leisure and not academic purposes, I found it a very difficult read. With its long sentences, extensive footnotes, and direct presentation of the subject matter, it reads like a doctoral dissertation. The writing style is dull, dry, and scholarly. I would recommend the book based on its content; not on its ability to engage the reader. The breadth and depth of content are outstanding, being both intensely thought-provoking and inspiring.

Excellent guide for the subject
I really liked the way this comprehensive book is organized. There's detailed historical context along with well-organized proposed explanations. With my own particular interests I cherry picked favorite chapters and skimmed others. The book lends itself to a wide variety of individual inquiry. I highly recommend it.

Very interesting
A really interesting compendium (the book isn't short, but many of the sections are fairly brief) on channeling from thousands of years ago, to 1987, when the book was published.

Not Recommended
Channeling: Investigations on Receiving Information from Paranormal Sources by Jon KlimoAlthough previous reviewers gave this book a high rating, I find it extremely booring. Klimo takes pages and pages to just clear his throat saying essentially nothing. By page 30, my only thought is to just burn this book. I don't recommend buying this book unless you can't sleep and are allergic to sleeping pills.

A rare 1987 survey of CHANNELING
I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, it is rare ... I'm delighted to see any study of channeling ("communication through an embodied person from a source said to be on some other level or dimension of reality ... and where the communication is not from the normal mind or self of the person"). It surveys e.g., the history of channeling, what it is channels say, who or what is channelled, various scientific and psychological explanations for what appears to be going on. The author has read very widely and spoken with leading experts in the field. But on the other hand (published 1987) it's a bit dated e.g., there's no reference to remote viewing (e.g., the Studies in Consciousness series edited by Russell Targ) and none to the many worlds hypothesis. More importantly the book's too much a shallow survey and too little a statement of the author's opinion. I've read around the subject and I found it disconcerting that when the author touched on an area I knew about he said too little ... usually not describing the essential features of the person or channel (e.g., Edgar Cayce, Swedenborg, Jane Roberts and Seth, Frank Myers)
