D-Day: The Road to Normandy: Voices from the BBC Archive

Richly evocative CD with the reminiscences of men and women involved in the build-up to D-Day, and the brave soldiers, sailors and airman who took part. It's great to hear from the actual people involved about how they felt. What with all the re-constructions and general over-blown TV coverage, hearing the self-effacing voices of the people who saved us from being part of German-occupied Europe is very moving. A big plus is that they were often recorded relatively soon after the events, so accounts are still vividly fresh in the memory. We should all be grateful - a great resource for young people who have no idea about sacrifices made by their grandparents. The narration makes sense of it all, with enough additional info but leaving the participants to tell the story.
