Dinosaurs! (Pictureback)

I purchased this book for my soon to be 2 year old and although I'm pleased at the quality of the illustrations and all of the information, it is much too wordy for him right now and a little TOO informative. Regarding the pictures, they may be a little scary to some sensitive kids - the illustrations are wonderful but graphic and many of them depict pretty mean looking dinosaurs eating/biting each other as it tells about meat eaters, plant eaters, etc. No beating around the bush and sugar coating it so my advice would be that you know your own kid, so make an informed decision about whether it will scare them or not. Definitely for an older child though (probably 4 or 5).

This is a 23 page paperback book about Dinosaurs. It is well illustrated with colorful and detailed pictures, and provides some informative text about most of the more popular dinosaur species. There are perhaps 30-40 words per page written at a third- or fourth-grade reading level. I purchased this for my 3-year old son who loved to watch Dinosaur Train on PBS. After previewing it, I've decided to wait a few years before showing it to him. There are a number of illustrations of dinosaurs attacking or eating each other that I personally don't believe are appropriate for a child under 5 or 6 years old. The book is accurate, but not a good choice for a young child that views Barney as a friendly playmate instead of a hungry carnivore.

For a children's book it certainly has amazing artwork! The dinosaur illustrations are absolutely phenomenal and would easily please a child and adult alike. A must have book for dinosaur lovers!

This is currently my almost 5 year old son's favorite book. He has read it at least twice a day for the past month. He begged to take it to preschool to show his friends and almost every boy in his class was drooling. Other parents have now asked me for the author. It is written by a real paleontologist and it describes actual fossil excavations and what we've learned about dinosaur behavior from those digs. The information, however, is presented in an exciting, dramatic format which keeps our son completely mesmorized. You'll learn about dinosaurs you've probably never heard of (like Torvosaurus), and I really appreciate the phonetic spellings for pronunciation help.

Book was in great shape. Dinosaurs are amazing creatures that my son loves learning about so this book was a must have for us! He's already read it several times and it just arrived yesterday! Love it!

Bought this because my daughter lost aCopy from school. Sent this back with her and the school didn’t bat an eye!

I bought this book for a child and ended up ordering another one for myself! It is very well written, I think suitable for readers of all ages. Even little kids who can't read yet will probably enjoy the fantastic illustrations, especially if someone reads the text to them.

My son loves dinosaur books and we are always on the lookout for more books and I love books that have the science facts he loves to hear as well as easy pronunciation guides that I like to read.
