How is this used for left hand please? The notch on the plastic circle is designed for right hand only.

It doesn't. The notch is positioned to fit the right thumb. You can't turn it around for left handed use. All pictures show the right hand - false advertising to say these are suitable for left handed use when they have a right handed thumb rest.

are these dishwasher safe?

I’ve put them through the dishwasher 5-6 times and no damage so far!
