Rothco Vintage Vietnam Style Boonie Hat, Tiger Stripe Camo, 7 1/4

My husband bought it for himself, but it was too small, so he had to get another but from the Army and Navy Surplus store instead. We were going to return it but decided to give it to our grandson - 10 years old - who was visiting. It fits him perfectly, looks great, and he loves it. So it runs small for an adult but fits a 10-year-old child perfectly.

Bought this for my hubby who’s a Vietnam Vet who served in the Navy. His original one was lost a long time ago. I got this one for him, and he really likes it! Hooyah!

I wanted another hat to use while I worked in the garden and yard and small orchard that I have. We have had nearly a month of 100 or more weather and this hat keeps my head cooler than my wide brim straw hat. It is more breathable covers the ears well, shades the eyes as needed and does not get caught up in the low hanging branches of my fruit trees (or in the confides of the rose garden when weeding). The hat appears sturdy and well made for rough work in my jungle. The vents again keep my head cooler than my large straw hat. My fitted baseball cap size is 7 1/8th and I ordered a 7 1/4 and it fits just perfect. Some complained about the hat been rolled up and stuffed into an envelop when shipped causing creases in the hat/brim. Easy solution...take it out, spray it with some water (don't soak) and iron it out...two minute job. Spritz again with a little more water and repeat of needed. The drawstring/chin strap is sewn in, not looped around the crown and has a small leather adjustment tab...it functions, but a spring loaded plastic "keeper" like some other hats have would be better. There is no inner sweat band which would make a super improvement. All in all I would not have a problem recommending the Rothco Boonie Hat to anyone. Lots of choices in colors...I ordered the vintage Vietnam Tiger Stripes to be different.

The weather in this part of the country can switch from a raining day to a sunny and hot day. Baseball caps only shade a portion of your head and I needed a headwear that will provide adequate cover from the elements especially from the sun. The first thing I noticed about this hat is that you can fold it and place it in your pocket or inside a knapsack without losing space. It is light in weight and appears sturdy. I'm sure after a few exposures to the sun and rain the color will eventually fade but that is the least of why I purchased this hat. I'm glad I ordered this hat and the size that I ordered fit perfectly. No one likes hat that fits all sizes...Oh yes, it only took less than five days from the day I ordered the hat to the day it was delivered and that is what I call customer service!

Let's start with the basics: it is tiger stripe, sort of, it is a boonie hat. What it is not, is Vietnam era style. It is not the ARVN tiger stripe, the bush band is black, not OD, and the brim is not the original British narrower one that typified the tiger boonies. So, it is a well made tiger stripe boonie hat. I paint the bush band and cut the brim down to match my original, I really can't stand those immense floppy brims hanging in my eyes and down my neck.

I bought this hat for sun protection while doing yardwork. The size of the brim should offer sun protection for most people.
