Smart Solutions 00014 Ultra Guard Tow Guard for Motor Homes - 20" x 94"

My install method was to use old L shaped metal bed rails bolted to the rear wall material (aluminum) and metal strips attached to the existing bumper bolts for added support vertically and horizontally. So far it has held up and looks nice with the added reflection tape that comes with the unit. The material appears to be thick and durable. Perfect size nice product!

It took me many days thinking and tinkering to get this heavy thing up. The prices they are charging for the bracket and for the details on the bottom are outrageous.I went to HD, got a L bracket and a aluminum flat to attach the top part to my RV. Also I had to have a 1" square metal to bridge the gap in 2 places.It was well done, but boy it took sometime.Also, I decided to paint the wordings, since they come unpainted. That took me 1 afternoon to tape and 2 afternoons spraying and waiting to dry.It is heavy, not one person kinda job to install, make sure you call your friends, neighbors or in my case my partner and wife.I haven't driven with it yet, but it does sit low, about 5inch above ground. I will post more once I do a trip or two.

The installation was not difficult. The weight of the rockguard was a challenge.

Had professionally installed. Performed flawlessly throughout our Canadian/Alaskan (Alaska Highway) vacation.

Would have been nice if you offered a taller mud flap so it could hang closer to the ground

The material is nice and thick and seems like it won’t flap too much during high speeds. The install was easy however I did t realize it didn’t come with any mounting bracket so I just made one from a piece of 1” round galvanized top rail for a chain link fence I had laying around the yard. I attached 2 self taping screws on each end into the frame and then used self taping screws with the washers provided and screwed from the back into the rubber then into the steel tubing. It’s solid but has some give. Tip to make it nice and straight it to install screws on one end then pull tight and screw the other end then work your way into the middle. I also used zip ties to temporarily hold the rock guard in place before I screwed it as it made it easier at I didn’t have a helper. Took about 30 min to install and should protect my new gladiator Im towing behind it now.

The rubber can be cut to get the fit you need for ground clearance, but it is a struggle to do with a razor knife. Should last a long time.

The Splash guard is heavy; being 2 people was a blessing. Started by measuring the height and cutting 1 1/2 inches. The width was perfect.The angle bar that was in place had been perforated unevenly. We started by using the cardboard of the box to create a template. Held it in place with clamps on the angle and used a pic to pierce holes from behind the angle through the cardboard. We then made another cardboard template for the center clearance needed.Being on a flat surface, cut out the center for clearance. Used a utility knife. Then proceeded to drilling holes from the edge template and those for the reflector plate.Set all edge bolts with washers in the drilled holes with the drill and socket. Carried the splash guard to the angle , set in place and pushed all bolts in holes. Proceeded to screwing in by hand all lock nuts. Then used a 1/4 inch key to hold the nut and drill with socket to finalize the tightening. All went very well. There was a bit of a wave when the splash guard hung but quickly realized that it was our angle bar that wasn't straight all the way through. With supports at each end it hangs perfectly flat.

After installing the Ultra Guard I happen to notice that the bottom part of the guard had a cut in the rubber. The cut wasn't right thru. but deep enough to effect the longevity of the product. It obvious that it was inspected prior to be sent. I'm going to keep it because I do not have a couple more hours to take it off and return it..... Then have to reinstall it again.
