I'm glad I found this and it works perfectly, even if it is slightly different to what was on there
I did not want to go spending over 100 on another office chair and mine kept dropping every time you sat on it (so I didn't). I googled it all and ended up purchasing this one, saving quite a lot of money. It took some solid banging to get the old one out, but this fit in easily (just remember to take off the blue cap on the center cylinder...I kept wobbling all over the place before I had that rather stupid eureka moment). For the price, it's easy to install. I was only concerned by how far it went down into the base, which wasn't much, but I think the other one was longer than it needed to be. The chair is now rising and holding the height, not wobbly and I use it nearly daily.

Saved me buying a new chair
I have a chair that I like - still really comfy and cost around £100. When the gas went, I soldiered on for a bit but then decided enough was enough. I did look for a second hand chair but for the price people were asking, I thought I'd look to see if I could repair mine instead... and yes I could!Watched a few tutorials beforehand and then ordered this. It was not an easy feat removing the existing canister but once it was out, this fit into place no trouble at all.Works exactly as it should and saved me the cost of a new chair. Alot more eco friendly too!

You'll need a plumber's wrench to remove old canister.
Works perfectly! It's a little tricky to remove the old canister, you'll need a plumber's wrench.

Catastrophic disintegration
This was a pig to fit. It lost its hydraulic pressure after about a year. The plastic sleeve lasted a further four months (16 months in total) before complete catastrophic disintegration. Indeed, the disintegration was so spectacular that I was suddenly thrown onto the floor (literally, not hyperbole). Clearly, the cheap price is achieved by using cheap materials, in this case plastic that is either too weak in the first place or else degrades over time. I weigh 80kg (176 lbs, 12.5 st).

Good
I have already did a review on this...Let's see how many more reviews I have to do on this item.Vert ease of installation, comfort for the value for money and good quality.

Given my old office chair a new lease of life.......
Arrived next day and decently packaged. It looks sturdy and well built but time will tell.Fitting was fairly simple but most reviews I read said that removing the old one was a problem.I ordered a longer length cartridge as the original one was quite low even when set at maximum height so this one should give me an extra few inches in height as well. The tools I used to remove the old one were a self gripping pipe wrench (14" stillsons type in my case) and a lump hammer.I lay the chair on the ground and using the pipe wrench on the top seating tube I turned it 4 or 5 times and the tube easily came out. This then left the base and wheels with the tube stuck fast in to it. I took the base outside and placed it upside down in my wheelie bin. Using the lip of the bin to support the base I then give it a good smack on the old cartridge tube using my lump hammer. It fell straight into my bin on the third hit. So far so good!Fitting the new cartridge was a doddle. Just fit it into the base, replace the seat (remember to remove the protective cap). Sit on the chair to make sure the cartridge is in position properly, adjust and away you go - done. It took me less than 10 minutes to complete the whole job and I now have a refreshed office chair.Personally I did not refit the decorative plastic tubes back because the old cartridge had leaked oil, but I hadn't noticed it leaking until it was too late and it had dripped onto my nice cream carpet. At least I can see both sections of the cartridge now and I hope I won't have a similar problem in the future. Now all I need now is a good carpet cleaner.I hope you find this useful?

Perfect replacement
Easy to fit (the hard part is getting the old one out) and has lasted over a year so far; I don't anticipate any problems with it.
