Don't worry. There's not that much sugar. And no artifical sweetners.
I was hesitant to buy this after reading reviews complaining about brown sugar in the recipes. But I am glad I bought it. I will be using raw brown sugar in place of regular brown sugar. Maybe coconut sugar could be substituted too? Anyway, if you ever eat treats, and most people occaisionally do, these recipes have MUCH less sugar than most cookbooks. I saw a cake recipe with 3/4 cup of brown sugar but most have less. (1/2 cup or even spoonfuls) One ice cream cake has no sugar, honey, or maple syrup st all! There is a chocolate cupcake that uses avacodo and banana in the frosting. I think it has a teaspoon or two of sugar in the whole recipe. The author has done a great job of creating recipes that will taste good and include healthy ingredients. The recipes are certainly healthier than those in most cookbooks and also healthier than the pastry you would treat yourself to in almost all coffee shops.

Many delicious looking items. Can't wait to try some.
Am not a sugar free person but many items look very good. I will try some and share with myfriends who have low sugar tolerance.

Recipes look good, item arrived with cover bent and falling off
The recipes look good, that said, it arrived looking pretty beat up, despite the package not being damaged on the outside. Wondering if the seller can speak to this?

Best healthier baking book I've encountered in 15 years!!!
This book is outstanding! I read unhealthy amount of "better for you baking " books. And vast majority of them was other not better for you at all (replace butter with margarine and sugar with aspartame) or required insane ingredients. This book is so different and easy! If you do bake you probably have most of the ingredients already. Amount of ingredients and cooking techniques are also rather easy.Photos are drool worthy. In fact i got this book in a library first and after baking 3 recipes in one night ( came out great) ordered it online. Since then i baked 2/3 of what is in a book and it's all perfectly deliciously looking and tasting. If you like/love/interested in baking treat yourself with this book. You won't regret it!!!

Brown sugar is still sugar- but you sold me with the photos.
Loved this the moment I saw it on the shelf at a local bookstore. A bit of confirmation bias let me escape into a dream where I finally had a beautiful book with recipes that allowed me to use alternative sweeteners. Indeed, the first recipe was exactly what I was looking for, sweetened with maple syrup. Alas, upon flipping onto the couch to try to decide which amazing recipe to make first, I realized that ALMOST ALL of the recipes are sweetened with brown sugar. Pro tip, adding molasses to white sugar doesn't make it healthier.... brown sugar isn't like other things where being "brown" makes it more natural... whole wheat flour, unbleached coffee filters, hands after working in a garden, etc etc. And so, I allow some stars because the photos really are lovely (and LOOK all rustic and healthy like a great grandma's sweet treat from some long forgotten French farm house)..... still, if you are looking for a book that gives you recipes that can keep you away from refined sugar, alas, your quest continues.

Layout and pictures make this a beautiful book
This cookbook is put together in a gorgeous way! The pictures are absolutely beautiful and show the recipes in the best possible light. Fruit is definitely used as a star in most every recipe to lend some natural sweetness, but there is also added sweetners such as honey, maple syrup, and dark brown sugar. (No artificial sweeteners are used, which is great.) There are some familiar sounding recipes like zucchini cake, but also many lesser known ones such as Quince Rye Cake. The authors utilize a lot of spelt flour and teff flour, along with almond milk for a liquid. I think this cookbook would be targeted to more "alternative" bakers, because I would not say that most of the ingredients are in the average kitchen. I would also add a side note emphasizing that all these recipes are NOT low in carbohydrate even if they do not use standard sugar. So if blood sugar is an issue for you, this may not be what you are looking for.
