Perfect for my application. I use it behind or after the 3/8” rope that I have through a block & tackle after it lifts my “too heavy” eBike (80 lbs.) off the ground. Then I can adjust my rear derailleur and my rear brake without having my wife hold it in the air, whilst I fine tune the settings. 😄 This is a way to safely “tie-off” that rope with a no-slip hold and safe easing off the load, when the work is done. I’d recommend this highly, but make sure your rope or cord is the matching size the ratchet is made for. Read the product info before ordering, ensure you have the correct size. Save yourself the hassle.

I purchased this rope ratchet together with 50' of their 3/8" PP rope. To avoid fraying, the rope was terminated by melting the ends. As soon as I tried the ratchet I noticed it did not work because the melted end of the rope could not pass through the mechanism. Cutting the end did not help either because the frayed end was falling apart and it would jam the mechanism. You need some way of keeping the frayed end from spreading, either by melting it more carefully and shaping the end with a knife, or by using a narrow strip of duct tape. The best way is to start with a wider strip and then cut the rope and tape leaving just a narrow strip of tape at the end of the rope, otherwise it would not take the turn inside the ratchet. In conclusion, if go on a trip with this great gadget, have a heat source, a knife and some duct tape with you, just in case.

I used this for a clothes line application with 3/8 inch polyester rope than spans 75 feet. I was able to get a good and taut, with an alpine hitch on the hook end. The ratchet assembly seems very sturdy as able to support the tension no problem.

I didn't know it when I bought 2 of these from Amazon that these where the exact one's I wanted. I have a set of 2 that I've bought about 20 years ago when I was still working as a auto tech. They are still working light brand new. Working on a project that I needed 2 extra. These are great. I was upset with myself that I didn't read that these didn't come with the hook and rope. no problem I forgave myself. I have 1/4 poly rope on a reel so I'm able to make use of then. I looked on the store site and they offer complete so I ordered 2 more complete with rope and hook. I can always use the extra. I didn't return because I didn't read everything my bad. This is a very good product that will last for many years. Thank you very much.

We use this on a dock to secure it when it's in use. It's working very well!

Does not work well as hoist. I bought these to lift my kayak up to the ceiling. Using 2 could not lift may hobie kayak. Had to lift the kayak manually and then pull on the rope take out the slack. They are probably ok for a tie down but I would not recommend for lifting objects. Also to release the ropes I will have to climb on a ladder to push the release mechanism. If you are trying to lift something stick with a traditional block and tackle system.
