Random House Webster's Large Print Crossword Puzzle Dictionary

I felt this book is lacking in information.

I bought this book for my grandma for Christmas. She is heavily into crossword puzzles, so I thought the best thing to get her would be this large print book. Its great for her so she does not have to put on reading glasses to look for the words all the time. The print is large enough to see it from the moon! haha! It's a great buy for anyone that likes doing crosswords, and does not want to squint to see the ink.

Given as a gift to my 85 year old uncle. He seems very happy with it. I looked through it when it arrived and thought that it may not have enough words for the difficult puzzles, but I could be wrong. Time will tell.

I'm over 60 and thought that the "Large Print Crossword Puzzle Dictionary" would be helpful. The print is larger than I expected, almost 'embarassingly' so. My old "Andrew Swanfeld Crossword Puzzle Dictionary" had served me well, but was starting to break up and was hard for me to read. But I thought this new tool would be useful even if the print was larger than I needed. I gave it a try. But out of the first 10 words I looked up no useful puzzle words were found. Each time my old (falling apart) dictionary had the answer. 10 more tries and only one answer found. I gave up using it and returned the book to Amazon. I definitely would NOT recommend it to others.

For the past few years I have been using "The Million Word Crossword Dictionary" by Stanley Newman and Daniel Stark. It's an excellent product and has been very helpful when I'm doing crossword puzzles. Since it was getting rather worn, and since I'd rather have larger print, I ordered the Random House "Large Print Crossword Puzzle Dictionary" from Amazon.com. It was a huge disappointment. It does have large print, and that is helpful. But it has nowhere near the resources, and can't possibly provide the help, that the old worn out one I have, (and still use), provides. I would never have ordered it if I had seen it in advance.

this was a gift for an elderly relative ----- it is easy to use and to read ---- a crossword dictionary is a big help for those who really like to work crossword puzzles

Was a bit leery based on some of the reviews but I've found this item to be just what my Mom needed. The print is really large, the book is not too big for her to handle. She loves her crossword puzzles and she's able to do them again. It may not be extensive enough for the NY Times Sunday puzzle but it's fine for our local paper's puzzles.
