Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords Character Add-On Deck

I recently bought these add on cards for my new game. I read the reviews with some trepidation regarding the printing of these cards. When they promptly arrived I was relieved to see their size was the same. However the back side of the cards are slightly lighter than those of the base game. It could be an issue when you play if you have a low amount of cards (for example we had to let the villain escape and when adding the cards back to the locations it was obvious one location that the villain was not at.) I think simply making a small investment to get some card covers will both improve the life of the cards and solve any issues of the different coloring. It is unfortunate and maybe kinda a thing one can expect. Pazio makes great games and gaming accessories however they occasionally drop the ball on things like this. Even if I don't get card covers this isn't a huge deal and won't stop me from enjoying the game. I also got the second adventure and there are no issues at all with those cards. Happy gaming.

This character add-on deck for Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords is great, and really almost necessary. It servers three purposes:1. It gives you 4 additional characters to choose from in addition to the 7 that come in the Base Set. I personally love the "Monk" character Sajan.2. It adds a additional cards to the game, some of which are more copies of existing cards and some of which are cards not included in the Base Set.3. In conjunction with #2, it increases the card volume enough that up to 6 characters may be played at a time as opposed to the limit of 4 in the Base Set alone.This is not strictly an 5-6 player expansion as is common in some games, so even if you aren't playing with more than 4 characters you can add this to your game for the extra cards. And that is why I recommend it for everyone, even those not playing with more than 4 characters. The extra cards are very useful and the 4 characters are great to play.

The rules themselves could use a FAQ, but with some online help the stumbles have been made clear. It is not a bad game, the production values are good, and it seems to play well with a pretty variable number of players. It does not get constant play at our house (unlike King of Tokyo or Dominion), but it comes out semi-regularly.

These characters add a lot to the core game (in fact they are all we play with). Even if you don't plan on playing with more than 4 people, just the extra characters alone add a noticeable amount of flavor to the games. If you own the base set (and you absolutely should, fantastic game!), just go ahead and pick this up too. You'll be glad you did!

I cannot describe the pure enjoyment I have gotten out of the Pathfinder Adventure CARD Game. I have been trying to get everyone I meet that plays any sort of game to give this one a shot so it was imperative that I get the addon deck so I can enjoy the game with more of my friends.The character addon deck is an essential addition to your base game if you ever have any plans to play with friends as once they learn the game they will be hooked.Also if you ever decide to host for the Pathfinder ACG guild you will want this addon deck.If you don't have it buy it!

As many have mentioned the cards in this deck are smaller and have a slightly different color than the cards from the other decks. The size is a particular pain since you have to shuffle decks a lot in the game. The content is great, and required if you want to play with 5 or 6 players, but be warned, the cards were poorly made.

There is plenty here that talks about the content side of this character expansion and I will add to that by saying it is very good. However, buyers should be aware that the Character Add-On Deck has sold enough that it is in a second print run and it looks like the second run is far from perfect.1) The box doesn't quite match the size and shape of the other adventure packs.2) The colors on the cards are slightly different and a character add-on card can be recognized easily before exploring a location.3) The cards are slightly smaller than those included in the base set and adventure expansions. This makes shuffling the cards fairly difficult and they tend to group together in your decks unless you are extra careful.All in all, the content is great and I recommend adding this set to anyone that enjoys the game. I am just extremely disappointed that Paizo was not able to preserve the quality as they went into a second print run.
