PMDG MD 11X (PC)

After years in the making, PMDG have finally entered the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 into service for Flight Simulator 2004 and Flight Simulator X, available either as a download or as a boxed CD. First impressions of the aircraft were very good indeed. The fine bump mapping produced dazzling reflections off the 3D StudioMax model as I panned around the exterior of the aircraft. Unlike previous PMDG products, the list of loadable panel states included a short and long turn around state which starts the aircraft with systems running and the APU and engines shut down. This is far more realistic since pilots rarely step into a `cold and dark' cockpit. Upon inspection of the flight deck I was welcomed with crisp, high resolution textures, bursting with detail. The background hum of the electrical systems completed the facade of being inside the real thing. Since the MD-11 was one of the pioneers of the glass cockpit (along with the A320), many of the old-style switches have been replaced with a plethora of soft buttons, all of which are modeled in this simulation. I found myself rewarded with a unique sound for every button, switch or lever I operated. The overall detail is fantastic. Systems-wise, the engine indicating system comes with all the respective synoptic displays showing crucial information such as fuel consumption, electrical information and a page listing diagnoses and their respective consequences. It was clear from the outset that PMDG have modeled just about every aspect of the MD-11's systems. What I also found useful was when scrolling through the system display pages the respective part of the overhead panel is displayed. The system detail in the PMDG MD-11 is very substantial. The developers have managed to recreate the intricacies of each system to the smallest detail. For example, when aligning the IRS the cargo fire protection system performs a self test. Programming the test flight was fairly straight forward as the FMC has aspects of both the Boeing and Airbus-style FMCs. During takeoff for first officer called out "Thrust set" as the throttles clicked into auto mode and fell under the wings of the AFS (auto flight system). The `clitter clatter' of the flight deck was audible as the aircraft hurtled towards Vr. Other callouts are heard throughout the flight which adds to the experience. Flying the aircraft manually is a truly unique experience. PMDG have simulated the LSAS to work according to its real life counterpart. Notorious for rewarding the gentle pilot and punishing the heavy-handed pilot, I experienced how the MD-11 can be terribly unforgiving. Despite PMDG's exemplary work on this add-on, there were a couple of minor issues that caught my attention. Unlike other add-ons, the PMDG MD-11's highly complex systems have to load after the flight is started, which takes around twenty seconds. In response to some peoples' comments that the MD-11 is a `frame rate killer', as long as certain display setting are tuned down most people shouldn't have any problems at all. I have found the display options most damaging to frame rates to be traffic and weather. Overall, I would definitely recommend the PMDG MD-11 as it is of the highest standard of flight simulator add-ons. It is quite expensive, but a worthwhile investment if you wish to have the definitive MD-11 experience!

I recently got back into FSX and decided to give the MD11 a look. When it came out, probably one of the most expensive add-ons ever made for the sim and still quite expensive now. It's aimed at advanced users but in point of fact that's a bit of a smokescreen as you can get up and running fairly quickly just having FSX load the flight with the default - i.e. engines running. You need to programme the FMC with your flight plan as GPS isn't supported, but if you're using default FSX ATC don't bother with SIDS and STARS as these aren't really necessary. Cockpit and visual models are good, but no cabin or wing views are a bit of an omission for those who like to be a virtual passenger for a bit. Sounds are okay but I as found quite often with all sim aircraft these sound more like the exterior sounds even when placed in an internal view. The panel doesn't save all that well, on resuming it takes around 15 seconds to load and the aircraft has suffered a massive altitude drop, which the sim has to recover from. I also found following a course the AP sometimes "hunting" flying the vector, i.e. flying left of the course then overcompensating to the right so on and so forth. In conclusion not bad, but still way overpriced and given the age of FSX in general now this should be on sale for < £20.

While the textures may not be HD, as this is a fairly old product, this is a bonus for my older system. I have a 2.4Ghz (Conroe) dual core, 2gb ram and a 6850 with XP 32 bit and can run this no problem whatsoever (FSX). The systems replication is fantastic, but the real grace is the aircraft's superb flight model, it is an absolute pleasure to fly. I cannot recommend this enough, it is a necessary addition to one's hangar should one be looking for a high end, detailed addon.

This add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator X is simply fantastic, a real joy to fly, and very realistic. This is quite a complex simulation so having a level of knowledge (or access to YouTube) is rather helpful, it comes with a detailed help book, but to be honest most questions can be answered on YouTube. PMDG are a very good and well know add-on company, whilst the price of the add-on is likely to cost you more than FSX to begin with, it is certainly worth the money with many built-in features, that may not be initially obvious are very helpful. Like most of the high end add ons it has an excellent FMC (Flight Management Computer) with some built in features for controlling the external doors, plus many options to personalise the MD-11 to have Tape dials (instead of round dials - such as those for United Airlines) Plus it arrives with many liveries that can be added as you want from the disc. All together a very good simulation that is quite close to the real thing - an A+ add-on. For anyone who is after any of the other PMDG add-ons see PMDG 737 NGX (PC CD) & Queen of the Skies 747-400X Add-On for FSX (PC DVD) There is also a 777 add-on yet to get to Amazon, but available elsewhere.

If you purchased the 737 NGX first, this will be a disappointment for sure. The level of realism of the product is far greater than the default planes in FSX, but not like the NGX. If PMDG reengineers this product at the same level as the NGX it will be awesome.

ＰＭＤＧシリーズいろいろ購入してますが大型旅客機はどれもメモリー不足でろくに遊べません。で、 Ｃドライブの仮想メモリーを４００００ＭＢ限界まで増やし、他仮想メモリー１１０００ＭＢありで ＦＳＸ設定一部普通その他最低なみで短時間の東京国際空港への飛行を行うことが出来ました。 途中ポーズでマップ見たりゴーアラウンドも大丈夫なのです。逆噴射しなかったんですけれどね。 長時間飛行することはないので本当に大丈夫とは断言できませんけれど。 無駄遣いのようですがグラスコックピットの教本のような機体を操縦できるんで、 ここまで出来るだけで満足するのです。いつまでも初心者のレビューでした。 追記、新たにＨＤＤを増設してそのドライブへＦＳＸをインストールしＣドライブ（ＨＤＤ）の 仮想メモリを120000ＭＢ、新たに増設したＨＤＤの仮想メモリを100000ＭＢに増やしてみました。 あとはメインメモリをＲＡＭディスクにしそこに仮想メモリを11000ＭＢという構成です。 サポートのメモリーが不足エラーの内容で仮想メモリーは可能な限りサイズが大きい方が良いということで、 ここまで必要なのかは確認していませんけれど、視点移動、リプレイとも問題なくできます。 今となっては能力不足なＰＣでも欲張らなければ大丈夫です。星一つ追加しときます。 ちょっとした問題もありました。機体選択後にＦＳＸが強制終了してしまうのでＰＭＤＧ ＭＤ１１ 使えないよです。私はこれ FSUIPC ４（無料で）をインストールすることで解決しました。 追加 FSXにWorld Landscapesを購入してインストールしてありました。これ、たぶんFs Global 2008 なんじゃないかと勘ぐってますけど。しかも値下げして千円ぐらいで販売しています。 これがFSXに入っているのでシーナリーの設定を最高にするとこのPCではFSXが実行出来ません 設定を下げてくださいエラーが標準の機体でも発生するくらいＰＣの能力を要求するのです。 それでエラーが出ないようにとセキュリティーエッセンシャルからRUDE Game Guardに変えて、 これで何十分かおきにガイダンス表示が出るのを無くすことが出来たはずで、 次に仮想メモリ用にSSD480GBを入れて460GBくらい設定して仮想メモリを一本化。460㎇にしたのは ディスクの空きがありません表示が出ないくらいに、ウィンドウが一瞬でも切り替わらないようにです。 仮想メモリってページングファイルで検索すると結構な数見つかりまして、昔っから皆さん方が フォトショップとかに沢山設定して快適ですね～ってやってるのを今頃知ったわけです。 設定は ・詳細表示する範囲：中・メッシュの複雑さ：80・メッシュの解像度：5m・テクスチャの解像度：1m ・水面の表示効果：１.x・シーナリーの複雑さ：非常に複雑・自動生成オブジェクト：少ない ・雲の表示する範囲 ７０Mil ・雲の密度 中 だいたいこんな感じです。いつまでもWinXpを使っていてはダメなんですがジョイスティックの更新が・・・

As expected, fantastic software arrived witin the indicated timeframe. Package not damaged, and content in perfect shape. PMDG as always is setting standar in flight simulation

Cet avion d'une modélisation époustouflante complète la collection PMDG. Il est d'ailleurs de la même trempe que ses deux frères qui l'ont suivis 737 ngx et 747 400X. Tout est fonctionnel et chaque pression de la souris sur une commande l'active avec douceur. Le caractère très avancé pour l'époque des automatismes de cet avion, équivalents à ceux de l' A320, a été parfaitement reproduit. Les sont restent de toute beauté et le bruit des réacteurs au démarrage fait partie de ceux dont on ne se lasse pas. L'installation et l'activation a partir du dvd a été sans problème. Enfin la gamme des add on SAITEK rudder pedals et yoke s'est parfaitement synchronisée avec l'avion. Est fourni un mode d'emploi format petit livre en anglais mais très clair et très appréciable. A acheter sans hésiter. Un grand cru de PMDG ....comme d'habitude.
