Great fun, but probably not for 4yo. Even my 5yo needed help
I know the manufacturers put a recommended age group on the box, but I have no idea how a 4yo could do this. I had to help my 5yo too, but I had no problem with that, it was a fun joined activity and he loved the end product. Very cute and creative. Of course it's not sturdy but that is to be expected.

Building fun other than Legos!
My 8-year old enjoyed this. Needed just a little assistance from mom. Even my 5 1/2 year old got in on the fun...he needed a bit more help but could put it together pretty well.

Seemed like fun, but not as good as it looked
We bought this for our son for his 6th birthday. He likes legos and building and has good manual dexterity. I sat down with him to build some of the sea creatures in the booklet, and I honestly had some trouble figuring out some of the directions. They are not as easy to put together as lego sets, and the directions are not nearly as clear. We made the hammerhead shark and the angler fish. The creatures you create are fun for the kids to play with once they're built, but they don't stay together that well. The pieces are also prone to being destroyed easily, especially by younger orally fixated siblings! They had more fun putting together their own invented animals, but the set has been sitting in a tupperware box (buy one, there are a TON of little pieces to corral) on a shelf and hasn't seen much action for almost a month. I don't think we'll be getting more of these sets.

fun toy
My grandson is 6 and loved this toy. He needed some assistance putting together the more difficult items. The whale was difficult and we did not get it together right yet. He was able to put it together his own way and did not seem to mind that it did not look like the box model.

FAO Schwartz Wooden Block Castle set - 5 year old niece LOVED it!
I bought the FAO Schwartz 75 piece wooden castle set for my 5 year old niece. Wasn't sure how it would go over, but she LOVED it! She opened it right away and dove right in. After building and knocking down several different castles, she made sure that no one took apart the final one - she wanted it to be waiting for her when she woke up the next day. The set is well constructed, and has plenty of pieces to really let you use your imagination. It seems like a toy she that will interest her, and will last, for years to come.

Fragile but easy to put together
My son loved these and it's just like a simple puzzle you put together. They do fall apart sometimes, but a fun gift for them to reassemble. We did end up putting a little glue on the pieces as he wanted to just display them and that worked.

Not as fun as it looks
My son, who is 7, loves to build with lego's, lincoln logs, Trio's, etc. so I really thought he would get into these. They look like so much fun but they do not go together all that great so it made it frustrating for my son and for me. Now once we got some of the creatures built he had a blast playing with them b/c they are pretty cool. But the pieces fall off very easily and boy that just made it a little rough in our house when the two year old sister wants to play with the big shark too! Will not buy any of these again.

Creative and sturdy.
My grandson and I sat on and off for hours making the sea creatures and creating new ones. The instructions are clear and product is pretty sturdy. So much fun for both of us!
