The Time Hunters have done it again!
Author Carl Ashmore has another hit on his hands with his second book in the Time Hunters acclaimed series. While it is aimed at "children of all ages" adults who enjoy the fantasy of time travel will have fun reading this book as well. The main characters, siblings Joe and Becky, are older and maturing in a way that rings true. Familar characters, including Uncle Percy, Will, and Otto Kruger are also an important part of this swashbuckling tale, and we get the opportunity to meet some new members of the time traveling community, as well as Chicago mobsters, a famous serial killer, a rum-drinking parrot, and a variety of pirates, including "Windy Pete McGuinnes" "Hairy Harry Hooper" and "One Toe Tom," all from the pirate ship "The Black Head." The language is rich and humorous, and the author effectively employs the technique of ending one chapter in a way that pulls you right into the upcoming action, so that you won't want to put the book down. For those who have not read the first book in the series, it is possible to enjoy the action and follow the plot, but for your full appreciation of this epic adventure, it is best if you read them in order. I am in awe of how the author manages to interweave the elements of this adventure throughout the two books, without leading to confusion or slowing the pace. While the tale is ongoing, each book has a resolution that is satisfying to the reader. Both books are priced so low that they are a steal. These books will also hold up to the test of time. Prior to reading The Box of Eternity, I reread The Time Hunters book 1, and enjoyed it at least as much as I did the first time. I eagerly look forward to the third installment of this wonderful adventure. Meanwhile, I have been inspired to take some time to learn more about the history of famous pirates, such as Blackbeard.

ADVENTURE FOR THE AGES
This is the second book in the series. Becky and Joe Mellon return home on school break to learn that nothing has changed at home. That home is as weird and unusual as ever. Saber-tooth tigers, a dodo, and a dinosaur share the home with the rest of the family. Things become more bizarre when an American named Bruce Westlake arrives. This time traveler has in his possession gold doubloons that contain magic powers. In no time at all, Becky, and Joe, accompanied by their Uncle Percy and Will, find themselves time traveling to Victorian England, the 18th century Caribbean, and the city of Chicago in the 1920s. They will encounter gangsters, sharks and sea demons, and blood-thirsty pirates. What is their goal? Their quest is to find the elusive Pandora’s box. This fantasy time-travel thriller will appeal to middle-grade, young adult, and adult audiences

Fun series for older children
I gave this book for stars. I found the Uncle character to. He delightful and entertaining. The brother and sister are well developed characters who don't always get along, but do love each other.I find the name calling between brother and sister slightly over the top but not excessive. I loved the adventure aspect of the books.I did find book two a little violent. I would recommend this book for the preteen to early teen age . It may be too intense for anyone younger than eleven depending on the child. It would probably appeal to boys more than girls although there is a strong female character. I will try the 3 book.

Another Winner from Ashmore
Once again Carl Ashmore takes various articles, people, places & events from history & weaves them flawlessly through an original, time-travel story. I don't like giving plot summaries away in a review, but will state the main premise is to find Blackbeard's Treasure/Pandora's box. There's humor, adventure, & drama. On this quest Uncle Percy, Becky, Joe & Will travel all over the globe, come into direct contact with Al Capone, Blackbeard, Jack the Ripper & a variety of colorful & appealing characters. How are they connected? Read the story to find out; that's the beauty of it. Mr. Ashmore does a fine job establishing the connections with ease & believability. I didn't experience one moment where I said, "He is really stretching to include this in the story."The verbiage he uses is a treat for any child. Some are actual words, some British slang, but much is made up & comes from his creative imagination. This type of storytelling will appeal to children & these are the kinds of words they just 'eat up'. On an educational note, Mr. Ashmore doesn't labor on the people, places, & things he's pulls out of history to help develop his story. In fact, just the opposite. He gives enough information to 'wet the appetite' of the youngsters reading, so that they will be curious & eager to investigate to find out more about them. This creates a cyclical effect, of more reading & can only end with positive results.Highly recommend.

What A Fun Read
This was a fun book to read and I’m planning to get the rest of the series so I can see what kind of mischief Uncle Percy gets them into.

Enjoyable But Not As Quite As The First
Don't get me wrong-I enjoyed the book. Pretty much read it straight through. But it just didn't hold my attention as much as the 1st. Not even sure why.The characters, the world building, the drama, is all there. But it just seemed to be at a different pace than the 1st one.Maybe I just need to take a break in between the books in the series. Especially considering how long the series is.I still think it has great growth and potential. Well just have to wait and see how book 3 develops.

Land ho me heartiesl!
Book 2 of the Time Hunters series, and another cracking story. OK, it's meant for early teenagers really, but if reading them makes sound like one of them, well, I really don't care! Tomorrow I be looking for book 3.

Another super book.
I am really enjoying this series. This second part was fantastic. It is just so well written and the characters and the different situations they are put in just completely draw you in and make you want to read more and more. I love the words you can't find in the dictionary. Which have a explanation straight after anyway!!! It is just writing of the highest quality and I fully recommend the adventures of Becky, Joe and Uncle Percy.

Review
I had trouble getting into the first book in the series. I found myself unable to immerse myself into the story and the world. I did not have that problem for this book and enjoyed it.If you asked me what this book most assembles I would say Dr Who. Ingenious (good) scientist/inventor with a time traveling machine, with apparent too good morals to take on kill the enemy..I know some peoples this story with Percy Jackson... Some names and ideas seem to be inspired from Percy Jackson e.g. Annabel/Annabeth Uncle Percy/Percy Jackson... (Book 1 both series: Minotaur/Hydra) (Book 2 both series: Bermuda Triangle/Edward Teach/Pirates), but it different in whole lots of ways. This book had adventure, jack the ripper and pirates.. I believe its worth the read.
