An ideal replacement for a 36W fluorescent tubelight (FTL) ...
Based on my experience it appears that a 7W LED bulb is an ideal replacement for a 36W fluorescent tubelight (FTL) or a 60W old type bulb (GLS). For this one should go for Cool Daylight or Crystal White type which is ideally suited for evening use. It throws enough brightness to cover a floor area of about 180 sq. ft which is the normal space most of us have in a living room.As per Philips it has a luminous efficacy (LE) of about 86% (Lumens/Wattage) which is an indication of brightness an LED lamp can throw. Just for understanding the LE for a 36W FTL is 61%. Therefore on comparison, LED throws about 40% more brightness for a current consumption of just 1/5th of a 36W FTL.However for the purpose of reading comfort one has to stay closer to the source. Two people can comfortably read without any strain at all. If one is lucky to buy it during lightning deals or any special deals, as I had done, then the initial cost may be brought down significantly. Even then the initial cost is bound to drop with more people moving toward energy saving bulbs while the cost of electricity will only be spiralling upwards in future. One other important aspect one may like to keep in mind is that more LED lights could be connected to an invertor as the load factor on the invertor is significantly low. Imagine connecting 6 LED bulbs of 7W in the place of just one 40W FTL or two 20W CFLs.

Bulbs worked flawlessly but are inferior to 7 watt in quality
I returned 7 watt Philips LED E27 bulbs to order the 4 watt ones but noticed these are inferior in quality. Not sure why. Philips should maintain quality across all its products. Overall, very good bulbs.
