ASTRO Gaming A50 Wireless Dolby Gaming Headset - Black/Green - Xbox One + PC (Renewed)

My son has been wanting this gaming headset for quite some time, but I didn't want to spend almost $250 on a pair. I decided to go ahead and get them for him for Christmas. I just happened to see these renewed ones and was shocked at how much of a savings they were. I figured I'd give them a shot, since I can always return them, if needed. These look and work just like new. I had to try them out when he was at school to see how they performed and WOW!! These are going to be a total game changer. He's going to be over the moon, because these are 100% a Twitch streamer's dream. They're definitely pro quality with all of the offered features. There's ASTRO Command Center software that comes with it that allows you to customize every input and output parameter, like mic level adjustments, and you can create your own EQ modes. The quality of the Dolby 7.1 surround sound is fabulous. It's got a precision boom microphone with optimized voice chat and flip-up mute functionality. These easily pair and the range on the bluetooth feature is crazy. I tested to see how far it would go and I can go on our 1st and 2nd floors without ever getting static. The design is phenomenal. I love that it's Mod Kit ready. The ability to swap out components is definitely pro level. I can see my son eventually wanting to switch out the headband and ear cushions, so it's nice that he's got that option. I'm in love with these headphones and my son will be too. They're totally worth every single penny.

I wish zero stars was an option to rate this purchase. The headset was broken and disgustingly dirty. The right ear muff is broken where muff attaches to aluminum adjustment stem. Left magnetized removable foam insert has been chewed up by small dog or cat and is missing chunks of plastic behind the foam. Headset is filthy and has dried food stains all over it including hair and fingerprints from former user. Base stand is scratched and stained with food as well. Product functioned when linked to an xbox as far as charging and sound. My son has purchased the same product from this seller before and received the product in original packaging and in perfect refurbished order as promised in the item description. Mine was received in a ziploc bag broken and in poor condition. Unfortunately this was purchased as a gift for Christmas and will now not be able to be given as a gift. The poor quality control has caused a significant hassle for me. I understand the product purchased was a refurb but paying $172.00 (including tax) for a broken dirty gaming headset is unacceptable. The item is being returned. Do not buy.

Battery life is great. Not hard to charge at all. There are certain issues. When i am in a call on discord it sometimes just randomly stops working.The newest problem I just encountered tonight was when I moved it from my xbox to my pc the dock stopped working. It charges but it will no longer connect to the pc. I can hear it turn on and off so the headset is fine. Now I have to either pay for another dock or get a whole new headset. I am very upset.

This is my first over-ear gaming headset. I've always used the smaller on-ear ones in the past. I've also typically bought much cheaper ones through other brands (logi-you know who). I've had these for about a month now and I feel I can give an honest review.First off, the whole Xbox/PC thing. Yes, you can hook them up to your PC OR you can hook them up to your XBox. You cannot have them connected to both at the same time. While there is a button to "switch" that button determines whether it's using the optical input from the xbox or not. I typically just move the base from one to the other with cables ready to go for both - but you cannot switch between them without disconnecting one and connecting the other.Second, what you read in the other reviews is absolutely true.Cons:* The sound quality is good, not great, but good* Switching Dolby on/off is noticeable, but won't blow you away* When watching movies/listening to music the headset will occasionally cut out - not a lot and not necessarily often, but it will do it - most of the time it'll come back after only a couple seconds but occasionally you have to turn the headset off then on again* When battery is low/dying it gives an SOS morse code series of beeps which is very annoying and was disconcerting until I looked it up* Sitting the headset into the charging base is like precision surgery, getting the contacts to touch so it actually starts charging isn't a simple matter* The microphone/auto mute requires the boom mic to be almost completely up, and there's no mute button or anything else* The buttons/controls on the headset aren't very clearly labeled/explained in the manual (from top to bottom: on-off switch, surround sound enable/disable, settings button - utilizes presets in the software you can download and install though you gotta configure it and figure it out yourself, volume control)* The right ear also has volume up/down pressure points which you're going to accidentally press as you adjust the headset or take it off, but it's not super annoying* Fairly big and bulky and not very light - but I didn't expect them to bePros:* Well padded and fairly comfortable on the top of the head for the first hour of use (I typically have to adjust or move if I'm going to wear them longer than an hour at a time)* Comfortable on the ears (haven't had any issue with this part being uncomfortable)* Easy to set up and use, drivers all self-install and haven't had any issues with them (other than the intermittent sound cutting out mentioned above)* Doesn't block out sound (this could be a con if you want a more immersive experience) but I often have my kids/wife in the room and I can still hear when they're talking to me without having to take the headsets off* Good sound quality with surround sound on/off* Pre-set button is a plus, being able to install the software and change the settings for gaming/movies/etc. makes them much more versatile if you have the time and inclination to play with it* Durable - they aren't lightweight, but they're also not cheaply constructed - I've gone through a LOT of headsets and eventually they all fail, when these do I'll update the review, but they seem well constructed and hearty so we'll see how long they lastConclusion:I definitely wouldn't buy a pair of these brand new for full price. But "renewed" or discounted I think it's a decent bargain and you'll definitely get the value of what you pay for.

Quality and comfort are unparalleled. The sound is epic. I can wear these all day and not care. Battery life is as advertised but for long sessions I'd get an extra charging cable because the only way to charge these is to put them back on the dock if you don't have a cable. BT Range is good and the mic. Audio is studio quality. 10/10
