can these be sharpened using a standard scissor sharpener or do they require a pro to sharpen them?

I have found with heavy duty scissors that are in constant use, especially for cutting material, a pro should sharpen. For everyday use, a scissor sharpener i ok.

Where are these scissor made?

The last time I bought this product, it was Veteran made, here in the U.S. I would hope it still is. I'm surprised I don't see the same information , since in my opinion, it's a great selling point. I've noticed, Amazon has removed alot of that kind of information from it's listing. I bought this product, and would buy again.

How do these stand up to rust or corrosion (particularly saltwater)?

I haven't used it in saltwater, sorry, but it does not corrode in regular water.

Will this product cut open a heavy weight bag of food?

Yes, but I would NEVER use a pair of dressmaker shears to cut anything but cloth. Cutting other things, like plastic coated bags, cardboard, paper, ... will RUIN them for fabric. Dressmaker shears should be dedicated only to the cutting of fabric.

very sharp but a bit uncomfortable in the hand

These are lighter than one would expect and that reflects their lesser quality - that can really be felt in the thickness of the handle. While extremely sharp and effective shears they would not be comfortable to cut out an entire dress pattern. They work well for my purposes, but I will likely need an upgrade in the future.

Nice low price craft scissors

There are better dedicated fabric shears, for sure, but most of those are also significantly more expensive.These shears are stainless, light, elegantly shaped, nicely rounded with mirror finish, comfortable to hold and use and have a sturdy plastic sheath/cover too - a nice safety feature. I bought them for crafts, not for sewing. They would also make great office scissors. I yet have to find out about edge holding, but that can't be much worse than that of the typical plastic handled craft/office/household scissors.I like these shears very much.
