Ontario continues to impress. This thing is nasty. Long and heavy
I don’t usually write reviews because I’m not getting paid for it so who cares. But I need you guys to hear this. Honestly I’ve owned a bunch of machetes through the years. I like the concept but wasn’t ever really wow’d by them. Well this ain’t no Walmart machete made in China BS. This is the REAL deal. Heavy, heavy duty. Long. I wrestled with the price, with which length to get, this or the 18 inch. I’d get this one all over again. Feels so good to hold and sturdy in the hand. Absolutely devastating to whatever branch or lumber you are swinging it at. I jinxed myself telling my wife the edge wasn’t all that sharp. But it’s nasty. Jagged and sturdy edge. I ran my middle finger over it and immediately blood started sprouting out. Don’t let that working edge fool you. Overall, this will be a forgiving and dependable companion for a lifetime. I use the length to hell move logs around on the fire without getting burned....all kinda stuff. It’s my buddy. GET IT! The math on the price adds up if you have prime because of shipping costs.

Sharpening
This machete is top knotch quality for the price. The only downside is they didn’t sharpen the first one I bought, but the second one is professionally sharpened. I put this product threw serious abuse,(I tried to break it) and it didn’t bend or loose its sharpness. Quality metal and an amazing quality finish.

When buying a Machete the Latin is best for clearing most things under 3" in diameter
Classic Latin Machete; comes with a "working edge" which means you have to put the edge on this blade. No problem once sharp it handles the limbs and brush I bought it for. When buying a Machete the Latin is best for clearing most things under 3" in diameter, other styles are meant for chopping. This is the best all around Machete type, at 22" blade length not over-all length but 22" of blade you have room to hone a sweet spot, put a 30 - 40 degree edge on this and clear that brush. If you're not willing or able to put the edge on yourself you can get this done at most hardware stores or any place they sharpen lawn-mower blades. Again stay true to the Latin Machete and keep that angle you start giving it that knife edge and you'll lose what this is meant for. Get a smaller 14 - 18" curved blade if you want to chop at things is my opinion, this thing is for clearing brush. The Handle is a plastic feel and it isn't solid, I'm going to drill out the rivets / studs and make my own handle out of a piece of hickory; if they sold this thing with a better handle I'd gladly give it a 5. As far as Made in the U.S.A. and customizable it gets high marks.

Great Machete.
I love this machete despite it's flaws. It is a long blade and the thickness makes it a heavy beast but it will chop through some thick tree limbs. I agree with the claim that the handle is it's biggest drawback and I honestly wish OKC would put on the same grip style as their other knives. I wrapped it on Wilson Wrap because the weight of it feels like I might accidentally sling it to the next county. Other than that, it's a great tool if you like a nice heavy duty cutter.

A Land Surveyor's trusty companion
I've been a land surveyor for 20 years, and the OKC 22" is the go-to machete for many of us. We clear brush all the time, and this machete is one of the most durable I've seen. Under continuous use it will last years, but with enough accidental dings like clipping fences with it etc, the blade will weaken over time and most likely split. You definitely get your money's worth until that day happens though. I've only broken a couple in 20 years... It's far more common to lose them lol. Great product.

Nice, heavy blade with a crappy grip.
I have owned several machetes and have always found them to be handy for a variety of tasks. This is by far the most expensive one I've ever purchased, and certainly the best quality. I knew ahead of time that I would have to sharpen it -- no problem. However, I do have a problem with the handle. It's solid, yes, but I find it to be very non-ergonomic. Every blow results in the machete twisting in my grip, which means I'm not controlling the action at all. This is a dangerous situation, especial given the heft of this blade and the momentum involved. This is a blader that should have a well contoured grip and it doesn't. I would've expected a better grip for the price.Like I said, sharpening the blade - expected. Replacing the grip? Not expected.I've never made a custom grip before, but I'm about to learn how to do it...

18 and 22 inch Machetes
I own an 18 inch Ontario Machete and now also a 22 inch one. The 22 inch machete is a solid Heavy Duty machete for cutting larger items. I found it a bit too long and heavy for smaller 1/2" and less items. It does take a fine razor like sharpening like the 18 inch one. For small brush I'd use the 18 inch machete and leave the heavy branches and trunks for the 22 inch model. The 22 inch blade is rough finished and has a fine sand grit feel. The 18 inch blade is smooth finished. The nylon sheath looks good, just wish it had a hard plastic tip guard. My old 18 inch leather sheath has been cut through at the tip due to razor sharp edges. The metal alloy of these machetes is first rate and will last for years. Practice machete safety at all times!

Great heavy duty machete.
I love the heavy weight, sturdy, and sharp aspects it uses to chop through the brush. Side swipes work good on the blackberry vines like a samurai blade yet it is heavy enough to chop through heavier limbs very well. The biggest problem it is perhaps too heavy at times. It takes a good arm to swing this hard for very long one handed. Two hands work good to help fight fatigue but you end up swing it more like a samurai than Indiana Jones would like.A longer handle would help to hold onto it better, especially with two handed use.
