Many of the complaints reference the lag time and/or lack of response to the wireles joysticks.......can wired joysticks be plugged into the console?

Yes, you can plug in the original Atari joysticks. It helps some, but the lag time is still a problem. It's almost like it's built into the unit or a quirk of the new system.
