A very thought provoking book

I'll be honest. This book took ages to complete but trust me every minute of it was worth it. It's an exceptionally written treatise on changing world. It's not like that everything will be new to you in this book, there'll be a lot of things that you notice or use in your quotidian life but the representation of the logic that goes behind that object or activity explained is breathtaking. Anyone who's curious about what has happened in the world in 21st century(especially since the advent of internet) or want to understand the generation gap or wants to take a glimpse of how the world's going to turn out in future, this is the tome to lift:):)

Thomas Freidman has embodied the maturing world of the 21st century in his book. This book acts as a harbinger of our coming times and reading the work will keep the reader informed about the changing times. A must read for young people .

The book is good and comprehensive analysis is offered. However, the print is rather small and the cover quality is very poor. The cover is not good at all-it has a smooth and clammy feel and it feels like touching someones skin each time you hold the book. yuck!

Phenomena about the present global economics

It is s book on how technology has taken control in our mind, the speed at which information flows, the ease in doing business with excellence in communication. All credit to fast processing speed of data and computing. This book explains completely that we live in an information sharing flat world.

A must read for every person who wants to understand the new globalized world and learn what it would take for individuals, countries and companies to compete and succeed in 21st century AD

Goes into detail on how technology is the enabler for a flat world. Goes into various aspects of the outsourcing and focuses mainly on the progress made in India and China.

As a European from Austria with a management and IT background I studied this book with great interest and a rich harvest.Friedman provides even the informed reader with many details and insights about political, social and economic dynamics far beyond expectations at the start of an exciting journey through his book."Flat" is Friedman's metaphor for "fast, instant and borderless electronic communication, web-based supply-chain management and business-models implemented via the global Internet "without any walls". Some readers get disturbed by the frequent use of "flat, flatten, flattening, unflattening etc."However, the content of his exciting, partly breath-taking reports is key, not the phrasing of the book title. Examples:- The ten forces that flattened the world- what gets digitized can be automated, outsourced and insourced (both ways)- difference between capitalism and communism- new social contracts with effects on employment and employability- importance of mathematical skills- the most important ability you can develop is "to learn how to learn" and then learn permanently- education as a process not a place- importance of curiosity, passion and creativity- Bill Gates: "you need to understand things in order to invent beyond them"- politicians need to understand and explain what Lou Gerstner explained to the IBM workforce- lectures of great teachers have to be put on video and made available to the public- men must stop beating women- influence of progressive-prone and resistant religions- productivity in Arab countries and non-Arab countries- environment damage must be avoided and repaired- bring people to the same level up and not down- importance of optimistic dreams versus a world focusing on memories of the pastetc. etc.Those who criticize this book in the 1-star and 2-star customer reviews area are not completely wrong, however they share one characteristic: they could not recommend a better book about globalization.The reason in my mind: there is none today.Friedman's book is very informative for all people at any age and profession interested in the technical and economic development of the last 20 years, its consequences and options to make the right decisions.

To understand what is happening in the world now, and to comprehend what changes are in store for the way we will live and work in the future - Mind Blowing!

Ich habe das Buch als unterstützende Lektüre für meinen Englischunterricht gekauft, in welchem wir zu dieser Zeit das Thema Globalisierung hatten. Für mich als C1-Sprachlerin ist das Buch noch immer ein wenig schwierig, aber wenn man am Ball bleibt und regelmäßig darin liest, ist es sehr spannend und informativ.
