Forget those clumsy, fat MEGA sets! Buy this series season at a time!
I own every season of this awesome show. The (new 12/20) MEGA sets with the two different style boxes are duplicates of what is in the 10 single set boxes. Interviews, bonuses and all. Amazon has them all. It costs a little more and takes a bit more space up. Well worth it not to spill them all over the floor and figure out how to remove them without busting them. There's not a lot to say about this season's episodes or the others I bought. Fairly priced for a show that had a great run. One of the few re-boots that was highly successful with the Exec Producer having high regard for the original series/respect for the great people of Hawaii. The cast was friendly to the tourists while filming (I have friends who went there). The quality is typical, great over-the-top best. Well worth the money!

Season 8 gets it right!
I love this show, own every season on DVD. It's perfect for binge-watching! There were two major cast changes beginning in Season 8, and I was a bit worried about whether the new personalities would be a good fit. It turns out they are each a GREAT fit! Not only Junior Reigns and Tani Ray as regular H50 members, but the enlarged role of Adam (Kono's husband) and the enlarged roles of their longstanding and beloved semi-regulars I'm highly impressed with the acting quality of all the regulars and semi-regulars. I'm currently very much enjoying watching Season 9 on Friday evenings, which is off to a very strong start in its first four episodes.

My Fave show on t.v.!
I am not subscribed to Netflix or other online networks so I have to buy the DVDs. Again I was very pleased with getting the 8th season of Hawaii 5-0. Myr order arrived on time, though I did have to clean the first disc as it would not download at first. I will continue to add to my collection of the entire series.

The show is still good, but not as good as in prior seasons
Season 8 of the Hawaii Five-0 reboot sees a fairly large shakeup for the show. Notably, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park left the show after a pay dispute, essentially wanting to be paid the same as Scott Caan and Alex O'Loughlin, and the producers and/or network refusing using the argument that they were secondary characters. So, the characters of Chin and Kono were written out of the show based on their season seven storylines, with Kono following the sex-trafficking ring and Chin heading up his own task force in San Francisco. To balance out their departures the show brought in Meaghan Rath, who plays Tani, a police academy washout with McGarrett-like tendencies, and Beulah Koale, who plays Junior, a former Navy Seal looking to get on to the task force. The series also upped Ian Anthony Dale to a series regular, which was a bit odd to keep Adam and Kono married, but her MIA for the entire season. The addition of the new characters did breathe a bit of new life into the series and allowed the show to do the kind of character development that it had not done for quite a while, given that most of the cast members have been on the show for a long time. That said, it was pretty crappy that Park and Kim were not paid the same given that for the first few seasons, before the additions of Chi McBride, Masi Oka, and Jorge Garcia as series regulars, those four characters basically built the series. The show basically kept the case-of-the-week format that it has used throughout, and tying in longer arcs throughout the season. One of the longer arcs involved Adam, as did the season-ending cliff hanger. The notable guest stars this season included Joey Lawrence, James Frain, and Randy Couture, and Vincent Pastore (who plays Danny's uncle in a few episodes). As well as Michelle Borth and Terry O'Quinn reprising their roles as Catherine and Joe White in different episodes. The show did a good job balancing out stories for all the characters, which was helped by the fact that Scott Caan had a notably reduced schedule during the season. For extras, there are deleted scenes for select episodes spread throughout all the discs. On the final disc, there is a behind-the-scenes feature (that runs about 23minutes), a short feature on the new characters/actors, an animated "cargument" between Steve and Danny, and a gag reel. A decent amount, but not as much as was included in the sets for the first few seasons. And, of course, as has been the case from about the fourth season onward, there is no Blu-Ray release available, just DVDs.Overall, while the show is getting a bit "long in the tooth" I would not say that it is entirely stale. While the show does suffer a bit from the loss of Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim, the overall feel of the show did not really change much. I would say if you have been a fan of the prior seasons, you will probably like this one. On the other hand, if you have not really liked the show up to this point, there is nothing about this season that is likely to turn you into a fan.
