We pulled our 8th grader from public school one month after school had started for several reasons. Quick curriculum searches lead us to the Lifepac curriculum. The item arrived quickly and we were able to start right away. One concern was if this curriculum followed along with the core standards of our state; which it has so far. Each box contains ten workbooks and a teacher's guide. I like how each lesson is detailed; short and to the point; which allows us to add our choice of supplements with each lesson, if we feel it is needed. For instance, with spelling words, I have him write the definitions for each word one day. The next day, I have him write two corresponding words from a thesaurus for each word. I also have him write his own sentences using each word on the third day; followed by a spelling test on Fridays. Each child's workbook contains multiple choice, true or false and fill-in the blank activities after each section. It also contains a Self Test; which is like a chapter test after each section. The teacher's guide offers suggestions for additional work with each lesson. It also includes spelling tests, answer keys for each lesson and for each test. The teacher's guide also has alternative tests for if a child does not do well on the first test on each subject. The alternative test gives the child a chance to make up the grade. I have used the alternative tests as a worksheet for chapter review before the larger Lifepac workbook tests. The one thing I found frustrating is with not having my own copy of the student text. We had to work on sharing the text workbook; which was wearing the workbook out. So, I took the staples out and started making my own copies of the student text; then I staple them back together. I three-hole punch my copy and place it in a binder. It just makes it easier to have my own copy for when we have class discussions and for when we review for tests. The Lifepac curriculum is organized and has a good flow with the content and we are able to work at our own pace with each subject. Overall, we are very pleased with this curriculum. Review: Switched to Lifepac after 13 years, because my youngest daughter was struggling. - I recently switched to Lifepac after 13 years. For the past 10 years, I have used Alpha Omega's Switched on Schoolhouse. It is an excellent program as well, but my youngest daughter was struggling with it. She did not like spending so much time on her computer and seems to learn much more efficiently through the workbook style program of Lifepac. She is able to physically highlight important facts and information in order to review to tests. She also suffers from a lot less eye strain and fewer headaches that resulted from hours of looking at a computer screen. The content of the information is condensed and to the point. This program does not waste a lot of her time requiring "fluff" assignments. Rather it simply, yet sufficiently, teaches the basic information required, so my daughter now has time to include some elective classes, as well. My daughter responds well to the one booklet per unit format, as it allows her to tangibly see her progress in each subject every time she completes a booklet. It also makes it very easy to take her school with her wherever she goes, because the booklets are small and lightweight, as opposed to having to lug her laptop or heavy textbooks around. If you are looking for a program that covers the basics quickly and sufficiently, so your child will have the time and mental reserve to include more electives and career related subjects in his or her school day, this is a great program. If you are looking for a program that requires minimal administration responsibilities for the teacher, this is also a great program for you. I plan on continuing this program with my youngest daughter.

Impressed with Program
This is our 4th year homeschooling and my daughter has always preferred books over computor program, although we have used SOS Switched on Schoolhouse since 2008. So, I was really hesitate about switching to books. I am glad I did, because she has been more motivated to do her lessons and stays at it for longer. I actually have to tell her to give herself a break due to overstimulating and less ability to retain the information. Another thing is the English is thorough, so have them take a break before going into Math or have them do English, History, Math and then Science. As their instructor it is very important that you read your Teachers Guide prior to them starting into the very first booklet, so that you have a firm understanding of how the lessons are layed out & how the answer system to their booklet works, also so you can help them comphrehend the lessons starting out. The first booklet has very little review of previous year lesson & then it jumps right into the teaching them new lessons. I am impressed with this program and it was a good choice. They are not overwhelmed with labs and both required readers are included too. Everything they need and you need is included, nothing additional or missing in this program. Feel confident in the lessons, booklets, teachers guide and entire program.

Good Sufficient Homeschooling Curriculum
Overall great curriculum for homeschoolers. My 9th grader is an independent learner and the discussions, examples and prompts in the beginning of each section/chapter gives good understanding and teaches the lesson efficiently. The only con I can think of is that the Science Labs DVD is not already included with the set and you have to purchase it separately. Apart from that, cost is reasonable, materials are comprehensive, curriculum seems to cover all basis of the main subjects and everything you need for an entire school year is in this set. If it wasn't for the fact that we are enrolling our children in outside school next year, we would continue homeschooling with the LifePac programs.
