Great quality sopranino for the price! May have to buy a spare to experiment with!
I've only just received this today, so time will tell if the review holds up, but so far I am very pleased with this incredibly miniscule little ukulele. It's much louder than I anticipated, and the build quality is very impressive for the price. The only flaw I've found is a couple of loose fibers of wood inside the body. Nothing too concerning as I've also seen that on much more expensive products. It's very playable in C tuning, but the strings do feel a bit loose there. In D tuning, it really starts to gain a nice voice, but seems to sound better picked with either the nails or a guitar pick. I pushed it up to E tuning out of curiousity, and will probably leave it there as it seems to resonate best with its small body around there; I can fingerpick it quite loudly in E tuning, or brush it gently to achieve a very soft sound. The included bag and accessories are all very well made and sensibly branded, nothing garish or childish looking as with many other brands. I also appreciate the inclusion of strap buttons, although I've found it's a little too heavy at the headstock to use the strap button located behind the neck; a loop around the headstock balances it much nicer on a small strap. Due to the small size of both the instrument and its sound hole, I've found that you can create an interesting "wah-wah" sort of effect with this instrument by covering and uncovering the soundhole while it resonates certain chords. I suppose that's possible with any instrument, but it's quite easy to pull off with this one due to the size.

Tom AM3-T, AM5-T tenor ukulele solid mahogany top, great sound, classic look.
The Tom Am3-T has a solid mahogany top and laminate mahogany back and sides. Laminate means that it’s a sort of thin plywood, with several layers of wood sandwiched together. Laminate is more resilient than solid wood, generally, creating a tougher, more stable instrument. The top is responsible for 90 percent of a ukulele’s tone character, and solid wood, properly done, is the premium standard. The sides and back can color the sound and affect projection, and what is to be hoped for is that laminate sides and back don’t color it with a scratchy, “boxy” sound. Good laminate usually sounds fine, sometimes very good, as is the case with this Tom instrument. The solid wood top is thin, under 2mm; it produces a rich, warm, rounded sound, the kind typical of a traditional ukulele. Low tones are mellow and resonate, high tones are clear and bell-like. Mine came with a good setup – that is, the strings were neither to low --which can create an unpleasant buzzing sound -- or too high, which can render the instrument more difficult to play and make it play out of tune. Mine was neither – it plays great. If you are a beginner, it is much easier and less frustrating to learn on an instrument that plays well. If you are experienced, you appreciate the “action” and intonation. I think it looks really nice -- spare, classic, traditional. It’s a satin finish and nicely done. Mine has a maple rosette around the sound hole, which plays into my tastes, but you can get the AM5-T, which is the same instrument but with abalone. It has side dots on the fretboard. It has two strap buttons and comes with a cool snap-on strap if you prefer to play with one – many players do, especially when standing up. The tuners aren’t awesome, but they work just fine. Premium tuners would probably have bumped this $74 dollar instrument to well above $100. Check out my attached video. It’s recorded with a phone, nothing fancy, but you can still hear it sounds great. On my Instagram or Facebook (@Gregkeyes1) you can hear me playing longer pieces on it. It comes with a very nice padded gig bag, the strap I mentioned, a microfiber cloth for cleaning it, a capo, a few picks, an extra set of strings and a beginner’s guide to playing. If I were a beginner, I would also love to see a tuner included. That would be pretty helpful if I didn’t already have one. You can use a phone app, though, or buy a tuner yourself. This ukulele is a good value. It’s inexpensive, but not cheap.

Cute Ukulele!
This ukulele is so cute! It’s small enough to fit in a backpack while traveling and feels sturdier than other laminate ukuleles I’ve played. The padded gig bag and all the extras are a bonus. Give it 3-4 days for the strings to stretch out. The action is low making it easy to play. The last photo compares the size to my Fender soprano ukulele.

The Tom Mini Packs a Powerful Punch!
The reason I play the ukulele is that it's small and portable—and the Tom Mini is exactly what I'm looking for in a ukulele. At 17 inches, it's smaller than the soprano, making it the perfect choice for travel. I also have the Ohana O'Nina, and find the Tom Mini to be far superior. With the O'Nina, the tone quality is thin and intonation a little off—but the Tom Mini has both a great tone and intonation. It has the classic ukulele look, made with quality materials, and even has three fret dots on the neck, something the O'Nina skipped. It came with a strap button, but I took mine off, as I personally don't feel it's necessary on such a small instrument. It also comes with a soft shell, well-padded gig bag, ensuring the Mini travels safe. As for the price, you get a good bang for you buck. Highly recommended! I liked mine so much that I immediately bought a second one as a back-up!

Definitely a beautiful instrument. The sound quality is excellent and tuning is not a problem. I love the fact that it comes with a "goodie pack" of useful things for the ukulele. It's a wonderful instrument.
