This smokin' live show was also Humble Pie's first Top 40 LP. Peter Frampton was still in the group joining Steve Marriott and the band on their hit rendition of I Don't Need No Doctor plus Four Day Creep; I'm Ready, and more!

A treat for any serious Rock & Roll library...a must have for Humble Pie fans!!!
I have heard rumors that Peter Frampton had left Humble Pie during this tour. This is just not true, Peter Frampton can be heard all over this album...or rather this Great Live album!!! Clem Clempson appeared on the album smoking. By this time Peter had officially quit the band to try his hand as a solo artist. It must have come as somewhat of a slap in the face as Humble Pie's " Smokin'" would go on to be their most commercially successful album. But Peter Frampton didn't have to long to wait...the release of " Frampton comes Alive" was a monster not only become the best selling live album to date but also knocking Carol King's album " Tapestry" out of the top spot for best selling album of all time period!!! So the summer of 76 was Frampton's hands down. But this live album of Humble Pie's marks the last recordings he would do with the very band he formed. And he left Humble Pie in grand fashion because this album ROCK'S!!! I don't know how much remastering went into this reissue but it sounds great on my system. Steve Marriott was the model front man for 70's Hard Rock between his energetic stage presence to his almost chameleon voice range Steve owned the stage. And from what I have heard in documentaries from other rock & Roll legends in their own write a dread to follow. Fellow musicians loved Steve Marriott but certainly didn't relish the thought of following his stage performance!!! Cropped from different shows " Humble Pie performance: Rockin' the Fillmore" It doesn't matter one iota that only one song on the album is a Humble Pie original, because when Humble Pie " Covered" a song they often took it so far from it's original arrangement as to be unrecognizable to the original!!!! All the songs on here sound great but the epic 29 minute & 25 second long cover of Dr. John's " Walking on Gilded Splinters" is a real Gem!!! And from what I have researched the edited version of the Ray Charles cover " I Don't need no Doctor" from this 9 minute 15 second live jam made Humble Pie a bit of money sold as the A-side of a 45 as well as gaining them more fans. Critic's had " Humble Pie" under the microscope before they ever played a note together, calling them a " Super Group"...hey no pressure there!!! And all of that on a group of musicians that walked away from successful bands to have creative freedom!!! Well time is the great equalizer & in retrospect there are a lot of critics' out their choking on their harsh words!!! Time shows us Humble Pie just kept growing & getting better despite member line up changes & other unexpected hardships " Humble Pie" always delivered!!!!

One of the Premier Live Rock Albums
I got this in the CD version. I remember when this was originally released. It was what we called "heavy". You really sense the excitement of the live performance and this was the album that established the band as one of the best, if not the best, heavy metal bands at the time. Steve Marriott trades guitar licks with Peter Frampton. If you ever wondered why Frampton is considered a great guitarist just listen! Four Day Creep is a real crowd pleaser and Frampton would often perform this one in his later solo appearances. I Don't Need No Doctor is another one everyone would recognize. I'm Ready and Stone Cold Fever are both very good tracks. I Walk on Gilded Splinters seems a little overindulgent now and I wish they would have included "Shine On" in this set because it which would have made this album even better. It was shortly after this was released that Frampton left the band.

Not quite what expected
I have this classic in a two album format wanted in CD format. Order came in a single CD that has about half of the songs in my two album format. I expected all songs to be included.

My Favorite Live Record of the 1970s
I read the reviews of this record and saw comments like: "best live record of the 70s", "pure energy", "Marriott was incredible", "under-rated masterpiece". I had heard of Humble Pie but never really listened to them - they just weren't really played on the radio and that is how I was introduced to most new music back then (I was born around the time these guys were getting started). So, as I was surfing around for sometihng new to listen to recently, I saw the love this record was getting and I decided to trust these reviewers. I am soooo glad I did and so grateful to the reviewers here. I now have most of the recordings Humble Pie ever made (and stuff Steve made on his own) and I love them all. Once I heard "Performance" I just couldn't get enough. I agree with all of the 5-star reviewers. This band (especially on this record, but also on others) plays with such energy it just comes right through the speakers. I think there were a lot of great live albums released in the 70s but this one is my favorite.

ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE-FOR SURE!!!!
WOW!! ANOTHER GREAT JAM SESSION @ THE FILLMORE!! ONLY 7 SONGS, BUT OVER 73 MINUTES OF HUMBLE PIE JAMMIN' HARD!! IT DOESN'T SAY, BUT I'M 95% SURE PETER FRAMPTON IS PLAYING LEAD GUITAR. I KNOW HE WAS WITH H.P. BEFORE HE STARTED HIS SOLO CAREER. SAY WHAT YOU WILL, BUT HE IS IN MY TOP 50 GUITARISTS EVER!! HUMBLE PIE WAS A GREAT ROCK BAND THAT IS OVERLOOKED TODAY. IF YOU WANT TO TRY ONE, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS LIVE ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE CD!! IN MY OPINION THIS IS THEIR BEST CD!!! I ALSO RECOMMEND THE ALLMAN BROTHERS FILLMORE CONCERTS, 2 CD SET WITH DUANE ALLMAN ON LEAD GUITAR SHORTLY BEFORE HIS DEATH (RIP DUANE)!! HE WAS THE BEST SLIDE GUITARIST EVER! THAT ONE IS HARDER TO FIND, BUT THEY PUT OUT AN EDITED, SHORTER VERSION CD YOU CAN FIND. BOTH MY FAVORITE JAM SESSIONS!!! PEACE OUT!

Definitive Live Album
This is an awesome live album! Highly recommend picking this up if you get the chance. My introduction to Humble Pie was the Smokin' album, but was curious if they had ever done a live album at Fillmore East (or West) and found this gem. This is the last album with Peter Frampton as part of the band. Two of the songs were only ever played live: "Four Day Creep" and "I Don't Need No Doctor". Despite the short track listing you get plenty of music. The drums, guitars, bass and vocals come through nicely. Steve Marriott's engagement with the audience is superb (listen to the beginning of "I'm Ready"). If you are a fan of Humble Pie, then you should have this album in your collection. If you are a fan of live music and/or recordings from Fillmore East, then you should get this album.

Incredibly over rated album.
I have been buying albums since 1976 but never bought this,i have seen it mentioned many times as a legendary release.Having purchased a recent rock magazine where one of the articles was about the top ten 'live' double albums from the 70's,this was once again given reverential treatment.Of the 10 discs listed ,i had 9, this was the only one i didnt have.So i thought i would take a punt, clearly as it made this top 10 at the expense of albums such as Tokyo Tapes (Scorpions),One More From The Road (Skynyrd) and All The Worlds A stage (Rush)...it must be something spectacular..So is it?, absolutely not, totally overrated, sound quality fine but the screeching vocal of Steve Marriot renders this almost un listenable, that most of the music is plodding and drawn out to the point of boredom doesnt help either. There is a touch of the emperors new clothes about this release,so sorry not for me,straight into the box with the rest of those never likely to be played again. No wonder Peter Frampton jumped ship,he clearly knew that the band was going no where fast and in a couple of years he would release his own classic 'live ' double' Frampton Comes Alive' ( funny it never made the list either)

Get down to your soul
Want to be transported back to the days when popstars singing the blues was risky stuff, guitar solos competed with vocals and smoking was good for the voice? Marriott's Humble Pie reinvented boogie just at the point bands like Yes and Caravan were tugging music towards pomposity. This album has the best live versions of some brilliant songs and tells us what a loss Steve Marriott was to the blues.

If Only All Live Albums Were As Good As This!
How does one review such a towering testament to the power of rock? A very, very good question and not easily answered - but suffice to say that of all the live albums that I own (and that's many hundreds) this is the one that I will always come back to as it really set the bar height even though it was recorded over 40 years ago!For those not in the know, Humble Pie were one of those bands that always produced the goods live although their studio output never did quite portray just how good they really could be but, when you have a vocalist/guitarist of the quality and power of Steve Marriott, the excellent guitar/vocals of Peter Frampton underpinned by the powerhouse rythmn section of Greg Ridley and Jerry Shirley, live was always going to be where the band were at, as this album glaringly shows. The album (originally a double vinyl album) had Four Day Creep/I'm Ready/Stone Cold Fever on side one, Walk On Gilded Splinters on side two, Rolling Stone on side three, finishing with Hallelujah I Just Love Her So and the ever fresh; Don't Need No Doctor to batter the audience into true submission - so whatever your taste in rock, be it power chords, boogie, vocals or fluid soloing all with a storyline to keep you well amused, then this will take some beating - the only thing to just remind yourself is that you will no longer be able to witness it live yourself (except in video form!) - if only time really could stand still! But, if you are going to play it, then crank it up, and live (re-live!) a gem of a British Rock Band!!

Addictive Rock at its Best
This Album I suggest, answers the much asked-question of what defines 'Hard Rock'.I have come across many reviews in which the term 'Unique' has been used todescribe the style and unrestrained raw power of the music on this disc.In regard to style it is impossible not to hear the influence of bands such as'Cream' and 'Ten Years After'. In the case of raw unrestrained power it couldwell be claimed that this recording borders on the unique. From the opening track it becomes obvious that a kind of overwhelming musicaladdiction will soon follow. This addiction will only apply to people whosemusical DNA consists of a longing for uncompromising Hard Rock on a very grand scale. This Album is a must for anyone interested in Classic Live Recordings from Rock music'sgreatest period or for anyone who has ever wondered why the sheer entertainment valueof this period is unmatched by any other musical period outside the 18th Century.

Overrated
Meh. Was expecting it to be much better given its reputation. Some great moments but a lot of it is dull and uninspiring. If you want to hear brilliant and ballsy blues rock then check out Rory Gallagher's 'Live in Europe' and the recent 'Check Shirt Wizard: Live in 77'. Now you are talking!
