I would like to get this set for my wife, but it says “for men”. Do you think she would still be able to put this together?

Being the proprietor of lady parts myself, I did not struggle extraordinarily with the assembly. I think your wife will do just fine.

How long will it take to assemble this ship?

Four hours? Total? My foot. I am an experienced model builder and there is no way anyone could pop out, prepare, wire, assemble over 350 pieces that fast. I've got 15 hours into it and I'm about half way. And some of the pieces do NOT fit exactly, especially if the tabs are bent, but generally overall the directions are accurate. Definitely consider gluing the main members to the hull; after all, why would you want to disassemble it? Some things you will need that I have found (maybe not you) are, elmer's glue, scotch tape to hold some of the pieces in place while the glue dries, an exacto knife to remove excess glue before it dries and to expand the slots that are often exactly too small. They don't tell you this on the box. The bottom hull is definitely the hardest part. It is unconscionable that the base would be made WITHOUT glue. I have glue certain points and the ship is steady like a rock and you don't have to worry about the pieces falling out after "assembly". Besides, people often glue their jigsaw puzzles after they complete them, so it would go doubly so for this model. Not EVERY piece mind you, but at the main stress points, especially when they are creased to be folded. It is a very fun and challenging product, and I would add not to gift it to anyone under 14 unless they have the patience of a saint. Four hour assembly? I'd have to see it to believe it. Unless there are like four or five people working together on it. But my rules with puzzles or models are these: 1) There is no deadline; 2) there is no reward for speed, 3) never lose your temper, and 4), No matter what, have fun! If you have little to no patience and are quick to give up, this or any other technical puzzle would be absolutely not recommended.

Can a novice assemble it?

These metal ships are incredibly beautiful but the parts are very very small because they’re so cheap I would suggest getting like a $10 metal kit and see if you can’t fill the tabs and if it works for you I got very frustrated with Metal so I’m using the U gears with cars and boats and the cubic fun 3-D shapes are a blast and I had never assembled one and it’s something the whole family can pitch in on

I have never done a model like this before. Is it easy for a beginner?

I've made 4or 5 of CF puzzle/models including a couple that are called "Hard." I'd start with a smaller, easier on with fewer curved surfaces. Curved surfaces are fuzzier to get fit but once you get the hang of how the material fits together, the bigger projects are just the same moves repeated more time. Never be afraid to use a little school or roll on glue if a part feels loose. Both those glues don't dry to fast and dry so clear that the glue never shows.

Stevig en mooi

Echt mega verrast over de bouwkwaliteit! Alles zit goed stevig en doordacht in elkaar. Schip is groot en mooi. Bereid je voor op flink wat uren werk maar met de duidelijke instructie komt dat helemaal goed. Dit was de eerste keer voor mij om zo iets te maken en het ging me best goed af.

Impressively detailed and great final result!

This is fantastic model and the detailing is superb throughout. I love the look of the Flying Dutchman and the LEDs bring it to light. All the additional elements that build up as you go such as the ghost faces on the portholes, the extra panelling and so on, really add depth to the model and makes you think they could have just stopped there with some of the details, only to find they keep adding more. What's especially good is that no two components are exactly the same - different graphic detailing on everything means they didn't just copy/paste from one side to the other. Instructions are easy to follow and the build was a lot of fun - just being cardboard, take your time! Some parts were tricky to slot together because if you don't have something correctly lined up earlier, then later when you need to attach an adjoining piece you could find it won't reach. Some tips - pinch the ends of the tabs before insertion so they go in easier At the end, many of the wasted punched out pieces I was able to use to fill in gaps were pieces didn't quite go flush together and where light from the LEDs bled through. Those little centimetre long panel pieces that you'd throw away were excellent for glueing into the gaps and blocking up the bleed in many places.
