Tinny and weak.
I was very disappointed with this mic. It's weight and construction were impressive. I just wish it's sound matched the design. Voices sound tinny and metallic, and the mic is prone to RF interference. If it wasn't my cell phone, then it was a power cable or the wifi router or the dishwasher. Interference happens sometimes. But I've never picked up this many types before. Hisses, ticks, and buzzes galore. You are definitely paying for the look and feel rather than the sound. No matter how I tried to tweak the EQ I just couldn't get a decent sound.

sound not great
I have had many MXL mics. I know my way around mics and this should be more like $75 Sound quality and presence are lacking!

Nice sounding retro mic!
This is a very cool looking mic, resembling a vintage RCA 77 DX. As some have noted, the output is a little lower than say a Shure SM-58, but it still works fine if you adjust the input attenuator on your mixer. It appears to be a hypercardoid mic which means you do have to be on axis for it to sound good. It wouldn't be a good candidate for using a single mic to pick up a quartet, unless you gave each singer an individual mic. I'm getting good gain before feedback using it on one voice. Did I mention it looks great? Given it's reasonable price, I think this is going to become very popular with folks who want a retro look.

Great Gift
Got this for a Boyfriend for Christmas last year. He saw it on amazon and said he like it so I went back and purchased it for him. He's a drummer in a band and does backup vocals. He says it's not as good as some of the other mics they use but says it's good enough for what he uses it for and he loves the way it looks.

Absolutely Love it.
This mic looks amazing and so vintage. That is the main reason I bought it. The only complaint I have is that it is a bit low on the volume side. I had to manually increase again on my OBS to get it to sound good. Not a big deal, but it was a bit annoying enough for me to mention. Still the amazing look is enough for me to overlook that.

Great for live performance if you want some extra flare! But find a good preamp to go with it.
I think this mic is great. But has to be used for the right reasons. The look is absolutely stunning. Definitely an eye-catcher. The sound is very warm and very clear. Volume output isn't as loud as other mics I use but definitely competes with most of them on other fronts (I'd recommend using a good pre amp with it). The visual appeal makes up for whatever way another mic might have an edge. 5 stars because all this comes at a low price!

It looks better than it sounds
This is a beautiful mic. Although... it doesn't have a lot of high end and the signal isn't very strong. I managed to get good results with a preamp and some effects but it's somewhat lacking straight out of the box. I wouldn't use it onstage. But it looks great in videos so I'm keeping it.

Looks great AND sounds even better!
Exceptionally GREAT sounding microphone. I used this Sunday on the worship stage and was able to get a darn good level through the monitors WITHOUT feedback, which was a concern. I was primarily wanting the retro-look that mimics the old RCA 77-series broadcast mics and was only HOPING it would sound comparable to the Sennheiser E-865 we normally use. I was pleasantly surprised that, if anything, the MXL rivals the sound of the Sennheiser!

Big mic, big sound, impressive on all accounts!
The low end is massive but tight and not overwhelming. The top end is silky and not too sibillant. The mid-range is warm and detailed. An impressive microphone on stage. Did not give me any issues even with a loud band and loud stage volume. I was blown away!

Love the Sound on My Voice
This mic looks great and sounds great on my voice. The only way to know if it is going to be worth it, you would need to try it. I've tried others that did not sound great on my voice. The built in pop filter does work relatively well but you do need to use good technique.
