Aladdin Lamps R-150 Lox-On Mantle White Light with 40 Candle Power

Last bought this in 2013 since when they have doubled in price, now 20 quid each! Aladdin lamps burn with a very hot blue flame which leaves little smell from combustion products but gives hardly any light so the mantle glows white hot and emits the light instead and acts as an after-burner to clean up any missed combustion products, result is an odourless very bright lamp. Mantles are it’s Achilles heel, super fragile and so expensive now as to make it almost a museum piece, which is a pity really as they are good lamps.

These were bought for an old Alladin 21C lamp that I'd just inherited. The mantles arrived quickly and in great condition. They fitted perfectly and the protective surface burnt off quickly to leave a white mantle that gives an even light. Very happy with them.

I have a number of Aladdin "Loxon" lamps. These mantles work with this type of lamp. They are always very flimsy, which is why one is advised not to touch them - even when burning off the protective coating. The bottom of the mantle material should be attached to the metal base (mine were) and this can be a bit of an issue, if it isn't. They don't last forever! Ensure your lamp's wick is properly trimmed, don't let the lamp burn too bright too quickly, or you will get sooty deposits on the mantle, which may reduce it's life expectancy. These are no better and no worse than others I have bought, directly from Aladdin. I am satisfied with them.

We have a 55 year old Alladin lamp at home and was disused for the past 30 or so years since a mantle was not available in our local market. So, my purchase has put a very loved equipment back to work!

I love my Aladdin Lamps but the mantles are fragile. I have purchased mantles several times in the past and some have been inferior and have not lasted very long. These particular mantles appear better than most and give out very good light. Time will tell, however, how long their life is.
