I use a dehumidifer in the attic above my clothes closet (yes you can guess my problem). The dehumidifer did its duty, overflowed and ran down from the unfinished attic into my closet. 7 suits, numerous shirts, some Sheetrock damaged and corner tape required fixing. Found this alarm/shut off switch on desertcart. Am working right now to test a catch basin that houses the dehumidifier so if an overflow occurs it sonically notifies us while turning off the dehumidifier. So far all the “mock-ups” have worked, water in the catch basin sets off the alarm as well as turns off the dehumidifer long before there is enough water to cause damage. The alarm sets off at 0.2 inches of water in a 5 inch deep catch basin. Plenty of leeway. Easy to install, connects to a single electric receptical. Pretty loud alarm, don’t know if I really need that because of the automatic shutoff. Review: This device works just as it was intendent. Like the added reset/mute button. I have installed on a 3/4 HP water pump. It gives me peace of mind knowing my basement won't flood if a pipe bursts or a connection fails.

I recently repaired my washing machine and had little confidence about how well the repair would hold up, so I wanted an alarm to let me know if there were any leaks. This device does it all: 1. It has a sensor you place on the ground that detects water. It needs to be on a flat surface. It will detect water if the entire surface area below the sensor is wet, but it doesn't have to be a lot of water. Placing the sensor in a pan and dumping a cup of water in was enough to set the alarm off, so it is sensitive but won't falsely trigger. Think of it as a "puddle detector". Note if there is water near the sensor, but not under it, it won't trigger. So place it where you think water will most likely pool up. 2. It will sound an alarm that is loud, but not "wake the neighbors" loud until you push a button on the side to cancel the alarm. 3. It also TURNS OFF THE POWER to the device plugged into it! So for a washing machine where the water valve solenoids have to be energized to let water flow, they will get shut off automatically and the water will stop. That's exactly what I wanted! I think the cable from the main unit to the sensor is a little flimsy but once you set this thing up you'll probably never touch it again, so it's fine. I don't know if the power outlet on it is UL compliant, but if you are concerned about that you can still use this detector with nothing plugged into the outlet. In that case it will sound the alarm but won't turn anything off. I have a lot more confidence running the washing machine when I am elsewhere in the house knowing this alarm is monitoring the water situation. Highly recommended!

Does what it's supposed to do. We had a sewer backup because our backwater valve was closed and the washing machine started it's drain cycle. Installed the sensor in our basement bathroom shower (our lowest point which is the first place water will come up) and ran the device to our laundry room. Tested it by starting the washing machine and pouring a glass of water by the sensor. Stopped the washing machine instantly! Wonderful device.
