The retractable line is a steel cable
It works great. This is a quality product and the price is a bargain. Although, I didn’t realize the line was steel cable, and not webbing. The cable also makes it heavier.

Does NOT slowly lower the person
If someone falls, the device is great for locking up and halting the fall. BUT THEN the person is Stuck up in the Air. I expected a machine that would arrest the fall, but then slowly lower the person to the ground. That is what I've seen at professional Rock Climbing sites. My kids could climb to the top, then let go and have a gentle ride back to the floor. This thing required us to do an emergency rescue while a child was screaming because the safety harness was pinching her! THINK about this! A kid climbs a thirty-foot wall then lets go, expecting to ride down. HOW do YOU get her down? Do you have a 30-foot ladder? Do you want to wait for the Fire Department to arrive? For US, an old man climbed the 30-foot rock wall, WITHOUT ANY SAFETY EQUIPMENT, then lifted her to disengage the Lock and got her back to the rock-holds to climb down. Everyone Lived--this time. There will be no Next Time. This thing is trashed. Thank God there are veterans willing to risk dying while trying to save children.

It’s heavy to carry to the roof but definitely worth it
Makes working the edge of the roof safe and easy. No more guessing the length needed.
