how to learn a lot quickly
I could never read a "real history book".Gonick's style in this (and other similar) book, enables one to get a rapid grasp of the sequence of events and an amusing account of what happened, from an apparently pretty unbiased viewpoint. Anyone then who was really interested in a particular epoch could then buy a "more serious" book, to get more detail. Simply excellent, and great value.

Enjoyable and Stimulating
This is a very enjoyable look at how our world came to be. Obviously much has to be skimmed over to fit it in, but i still found things that were new to me.

Perfect for a short entertaining overview of history
I have all Larry Gonick's cartoon history books. Being a lover of history and with a History academic background I also read 'proper' history books. But... these books are cool.A bit like A Short History of the World (Penguin Classics), these books give you a quick overview of a period in history which either puts it in perspective or urges you to read more in depth works. These were my daughter's first history books, accessible because they are cartoons and complementing her Horrible Histories collection.
