Great pedals
I own the FP9500D (direct drive) and the FP8500B (belt drive). The direct drive is a wonderful inexpensive way to experience a direct drive. Without the FP9500D direct drives would be out of the range of most drummer's budgets. The quality is excellent and solid I don't see a reason to buy a more expensive one. I bought the FP8500B after hearing Jojo Mayer's comments about pedals on his techniques for the modern drummer part II. I couldn't afford a Jojo Mayer perfect balance pedal but the FP8500B has many of the same features. For example, the smooth footboard, the longer footboard. Yamaha describe the cam as uniform which I believe means the beater moves in a linear motion compare with, for example the non linear movement if the Iron cobra power glide because of the shape of the cam. Mayer's technique relies upon the linear motion. So I'm using the FP8500B as an alternative to the perfect balance pedal.
