Not every location will produce a good signal, and sometimes the accuracy is a little ...
I used this scanner to locate roofing rafters through my asphalt shingle roof for installation of solar panels. The shingles are of the architectural type, which means there's a lot of topography. In order to use this scanner on such shingles, one needs a thin but relatively rigid piece of cardboard for the scanner to rest on while moving it back and forth over the approximate location of the rafter. Not every location will produce a good signal, and sometimes the accuracy is a little less than others. But by taking measurements every 18" or so, then drawing a line of best fit along all of the marks, I was able to locate 7 rafters (1.5 inches wide) and install 28 supports bolted into the rafters. No misses. This is an expensive tool, but well worth the price. No other method was as quick and sure.

Read the instructions carefully and familiarize yourself with the tool.
FANTASTIC! I read a lot of negative reviews but decided to take a chance. I have several Bosch laser tools and love them.I installed over 200 feet for solar rails on a shingled roof that now has 77 panels on it. Once I became familiar with it, the tool worked nearly flawlessly. I may have missed a few rafters but it located 98% of them accurately. I used a 1/4” piece of fiber board to provide a smooth rolling surface. It is expensive but saved me a lot of time measuring between rafters and missing with the drill. I highly recommend it.

Learn to use and it works.
Not quite a tricorder, but it does a fairly good job looking into walls. However it realy helps to go through the training videos. I wish they offered an online training tutorial which trains you to each of the elements presented with a virutal unit. But once you have it down it mostly works. One issue is that it doesn't recognise gaps between the detected object and the read of the drywall (or other substance) you are looking through. Also, materials like plywood can confuse or eliminate deeper readings. Overall, if you take the time to learn to use it (expect at least an hour initially and another 15 minutes anytime you don't use it for a while), it mostly works well.My only other comment is the top and bottom wheels are linked so it makes it too easy to rotate the unit slightly. Changing to a linked wheel or tracks would improve its ability to keep a straight line, but, again, careful use substitutes for this missing feature.

Disappointing. Inconsistent results.
I hit rebar using a core bit. I decided to buy this so that would not happen again. In three inches of concrete the machine would not located the rebar I had already hit. Small bumps in the surface produced slipping wheel error message. sound is difficult to hear over even low level noise like workers talking in the back ground. After twenty minutes of use the batteries were dead. Most frustrating is the inconsistent read out . Multiple passes over the same area produced different results and some times no results. Tried it on drywall just for giggles. Same inconsistent readout. The one I got definitely will not find rebar in six inches of concrete. Very disappointing.

Five Stars
Great for finding metal sewer and power in concrete. We use it for scanning for tentioned concrete. The people who wrote bad reviews must not know how to use it or did not read the directions. Works flawlessly. locates up to 8 inches down in concrete and tells you how wide and within 1/32 if an inch how deep. We tested over and over and was never wrong. IT will however not go right up beside a wall because of the design.

Not recommended for finding wood studs behind drywall
I do so much work on existing construction that an improvement over the standard $20-50 stud finder would be well worth it ... even 10x the amount such as this unit is pricedUnfortunately for the work I usually perform -finding studs, pipes, etc... behind drywall- the Bosch D-Tech 150 was terrible. Not only was it not better than my $20 unit but it was much worse. So bad perhaps the unit I got was defective; it would miss studs and give one reading one minute and another the next. The limitations in the directions don't build confidence either; problems with hollow walls, objects being too close, etc... In any case I won't bother trying another and am returning. Quite frankly I'm upset to get such bad results for the price. I haven't been this disappointed with a product in a long time.Note, I would have easily have given this only one (1) star but I didn't try to detect objects in concrete and non-hollow walls. Since others report good results doing this I'm assuming for that function it works great.Super concept but fails measurably to a shocking extent in executing it.

This product is OK but don't be very optimistic about what they say it does
Excellent to detect ducts, steel, wires in wood walls, in floors and drywalls. Most of the times, I use this scanner to detect steel rebar on concrete elements. For these purpose is excellent to estimate rebar deep and location but it is impossible to detect bars behind first layer of steel and specify number of bars when they are very close to each other. It will be perfect if it could detect diameter or width of the objects

No more guessing about what is in the Wall
I bought this unit because I was tired of guessing what was in my concrete walls when hanging shelves or pictures, or installing new electrical and plumbing. I have three of the inexpensive stud finders, but when used on a known piece of rebar 3cm below the wall surface, each gave different results, none of which were correct. Two of the stud finders failed to locate a known active electrical cable, with a 10A heater load, about 2cm below the surface of the wall. The Bosch D-Tect 150 was accurate to within one milimeter of known rebar and cable and helped find several undocumented electrical cables and domestic water pipes. The cost of the D-Tect 150 was much less than the cost of repair had I drilled into one of the water pipes, which I was about to do. This was money well spent!
