I ended up being a bit disappointed. The mirror comes in a shiny cardboard box ...
As a wet shaver that wears glasses I've been planning to add an extending mirror during my bathroom remodel. I was very excited to try out this model, thinking that at this price it must be exceptional. I ended up being a bit disappointed. The mirror comes in a shiny cardboard box with a couple of plastic packing pieces, it's very easy to unpack. It included set screws, an allen wrench, and screws and anchors for mounting to drywall. The anchors are fairly small, and the mirror is heavy. I would recommend either mounting to a stud or getting more substantial anchors. I used some longer screws and mounted to a stud. Installation was pretty easy, you'll need a drill, and a screwdriver. The quality of the unit is mixed. I looked over the chrome and found a couple of defects, they were small so not noticeable unless you were looking for them. The bigger problem was that there are plastic bushings on the end of the scissor mechanisms that ride on the shafts to allow the mirror to extend. When I tried to extend the mirror it went about 1 inch and stopped. Two of the plastic bushings were not pressed into their collars. I pushed one in and it extended a bit more. The second bushing just kept popping out. I ended up forcing the scissor mechanism and it finally extended. I was then able to push the bushing into its collar, I'm hoping it stays in place. For the price of this mirror I would have expected better quality control, ie the bushings, and more substantial mounting hardware.

For that crazy high price, this mirror should function better
This mirror is nice looking and I like it, but it has some functionality issues. The mirror is dual sided and quite large. It will definitely serve your tweezing/ shaving/ eyeliner/ whistling at yourself in the mirror purposes. One side is 1X (almost a normal mirror) and the other side is 5x for the up-close action. We placed ours on the wall in the back corner above the sink. When it is extended, it can be placed at the edge of the sink right where you are standing. Unfortunately, that is where we run into an issue: the extending. When the mirror first arrived it would not extend at all. After some gently pulling, we eased it out to it's full length. After using the product several times, we have learned that we just have to be careful when extending it and push gently on the parts that slide up and down the rod (sorry, I am not sure of the actual name of those parts) to get it to extend. It does work. However, at the current price of $172.90 I would expect it to be flawless. The functionality issues and the price are why I am giving this 3/5 stars. If they fixed the extending mechanisms, the mirror would be awesome. However, I would never, ever pay $173 for this even if it was perfect. Given these issues, I would not recommend this product unless you have patience and too much money in your pockets.

Pricey without a reason to be.
Like many others who have reviewed this mirror, I was unhappy with the quality for the price. It's pretty common to see expensive bathroom accessories from the big brands (Moen, Kohler) - and lifetime warranties are also tied to those high quality products... This just seems like its priced for the segment, not the quality and value. As for design, its traditional with a very nice look. The chrome is imperfect, but not noticeable unless using the 5x mirror on itself. Since this is a basic chrome and not one of the lifetime finishes of other products, I have concerns over the impact of wet hands and discoloring/corrosion in the future.Functionally, I haven't had the bushing issues that others have reported -- yet. Hopefully I received one that isn't plagued with those issues. The mirror surfaces are well done, the 5x is almost too revealing - My wife likes it..I would not recommend this product based on its value. If money isn't an object, you are going to buy something nicer than this. But since we do care about value, this either should be lowered in price or be passed by.

Rich and impressive looking
Fantastic mirror! Five stars for how neat & useful it is. Three stars for bushing issues = 4Our household quickly got use to the convenience of the 5X mirror readily available.Makes me wonder how we did without it.Very useful and stylish ~ with vintage appeal ~ an excellent mirror. But ~ when I first tried to extend the arm, I found both ends were frozen in place. After a bit of tugging they broke loose, as did three of four plastic bushings.Glued bushings 4 times with super glue ~ which apparently won't stick to this plastic.Went around & around ~ glue ~ clean glue off with acetone ~ etc.Never did get bushing to stay put.But I did learn that acetone cleans off the residue on the post from manufacturing. That in itself allows the bushing to move more freely.Had a couple spots to polish off manufacturing residue, & pick extra white gook from edge of mirror. Now all is good except loose bushings. But at least they will now move on the post. However ~ for the price ~ I would think no tweaking should be needed.Fantastic ~ handsome size ~ 7 3/4" wide mirror, including frame. Actual mirror is 7".One side ~ no magnification ~ other side 5 times magnification.Arm extends a maximum 18 3/4"Includes screws and Allen wrench.Made in China. But U.S.A. contact phone # and web address is available on inclosed instruction sheet.
