For spherification (gelly bubbles, boba, etc.)
I got this calcium lactate to make edible spheres --that is liquid encapsulated in a gel-like bubble, which can be made thin, or with longer time, thicker like the texture of caviar. It is kinda cool as a gimmicky or high end effect for presentation of foods or desserts, or for boba. It is also neat as a science experiment for kids. The other needed ingredient for spherification (or reverse spherification) is sodium alginate, which reacts with the calcium lactate to create the spheres. Calcium lactate is the form of calcium I use because it has a minimal effect on taste, preserving the flavor of whatever liquid I encapsulate. This particular calcium lactate works well for spherification (as it should). It can also simply be added to foods/drinks to increase the absorbable calcium content for those needing calcium supplementation. It comes with a scoop in a convenient jar. While it is manufacturered in China, the fact that it works for spherification indicates to me that it is likely pure calcium lactate, as advertised.

Mixes well and a good alternative to pills ....
This bottle contains 114 servings - just shy of a 4-month supply if used as a supplement. The serving size is 2/3 tsp which is a bit cumbersome as none of my measuring spoon sets have 1/3 tsp. I can either buy 1/3 tsp (which I have only found comes as part of a set) or I can eyeball it using a full teaspoon. I actually decided to use a 1/2 teaspoon. It is slightly less than recommended, but since I am using as a supplement, it will work for me. I have been using this for about a week. It is hard to know if it has made a difference. I take a number of supplements and it is always hard to tell if any single one of them is making a huge difference. I can say that I have not had any negative side effects from using this. I mix this in my morning bullet-proof coffee and did not notice a flavor difference. It mixes well, however I do use a coffee handheld mixer. The box had a tape seal. The bottle opening was sealed for safety. The cap has two sections where you can pour/measure or shake. There is an expiration date on the box, but not the bottle. So you will have to either keep the box or write it on the bottle. I will use the product up before the expiration date as it is good for 4y9m. The full address is provided on the bottle, which is what is recommended. In fact, the label on the box has quite a bit of information which speaks to the legitimacy of the company.

I'll need to do more research
I ordered this calcium lactate to try in breads as it is supposed to help with leavening and stability. It apparently also works well with any recipes that use baking soda. In the photo is the side of the box with instructions. It says has slightly bitter taste then the next sentence says good flavor so I guess we'll see. It also shows the amount to use, but bread is not listed just "puffed food". Since I'm not sure puffed food is leavened food I will have to do some research online for recipes using calcium lactate. I was thinking this is a good way to sneak more calcium into all the baked goods I eat. Since my kitchen is out of commission until the tile work is completed it may be a while before I'm baking again and can come back to update this review so for now I'm leaving the 5 stars.

Arrived as broken seal
Mine came as broken seal. Based on the seal condition (pulled marks), I assume that happened at the sealing machine. Cap was tightly closed. Box indicates that shelf life is 24 months and best before 11 Oct. 2029. It’s 2025 so…2027??? Typo??? Very confusing. Usage age is also confusing. It states this is for age 6+, but there is a logo for “NO for 0-3 ages.” How about age 4 and 5??? I tasted the powder as is. It’s slightly bitter but dissolves well. Probably not good for drinks, but I’m planning to use for pie crust for quiches. I agree with the other reviewer: Bottle should have a label for “quantity of powder to use” instead on the box, AND fix those discrepancies on shelf life and usage ages.

Tasteless and dissolves easily
This powder has many uses related to thickening and stabilizing foods, but I use it as a calcium supplement for my kids who won't swallow pills. I sprinkle a bit of this into their milk or chocolate milk to get a bit more calcium into their diets. The white powder dissolves easily and doesn't alter the taste of their milk.

added to preworkout
hard to tell if its helping my bone health but replacing my normal calcium supplement with this doesnt seem to have deficits so thats good i've been mixing it in my preworkout drink and the taste is fairly unnoticeable, especially with how strong the rest of it is

Has all the right ingredients, but don't like the taste
So this seems to be a very healthy product. The ingredients are great and it has to be a wonderful supplement for all lifestyles and ages. However, it tastes a bit like chalky sour milk. Nobody in my family can take it, including me. I'm sure there is something it will be good in - probably yogurt is the best option. I think this is the kind of product you need to buy in pill form.

Calcium lactate powder is a superstar in the world of molecular gastronomy—and yes, it’s a key player in making popping boba! When paired with sodium alginate, it triggers a spherification reaction that forms those juicy, flavor-packed pearls that burst in your mouth. It’s odorless, tasteless, and dissolves easily, making it perfect for DIY boba experiments at home. Whether you're crafting mango spheres or lychee bombs, calcium lactate brings the science to your sweet creations. A must-have for kitchen alchemists.
