DEWALTDEW-DW1956 Drill Bit Set with Pilot Point, 16-Piece (DW1956)

These drill bits are very well made in a nice case. The case design allows you to easily insert the bits (insert at an angle near the base of the holder, and then push the tip down into the slot).The larger bits all have anti slip notching, which is a nice feature.The bits work great on metal (aluminum, steel, stainless are all no problem). Wood is also fine. However on thin plastic or thin wood, especially plastic the bit has too much bite, and can sometimes leave a messy hole.On metal this is fine. With careful control of pressure and drilling speed there is no problem with any material. By using a slow/medium drilling speed and very light pressure plastic holes come out beautiful.Also the case and bits have been through quite a bit of abuse already, and no loss of finishing. A good touch is the lettering is placed well below the shank, reducing wear.

This is another item bought with a 100.00 gift certificate from work....I occasionally need to drill a hole at work...1 and 1/8 th inch holes and below I normally use unibits but occasionally I need to drill a hole thru thicker metal or wood or plastic and so I need a bit that will drill thru thicker materials without making a stepped hole like a unibit does.I have many loose drill bits at work/home but decided I need a decent cased set of som common sizes. These dewalt cased sets are nice and when I break or wear out a bit I can just replace the bit and have a nice case to put it in.Im not sure about how the little pilot point bits will work, never have used them before but when they do break I will replace them with 135 degree split point bits of good quality.I had a set cased set like this before...though not the pilot points and it held up great till someone at work either lost or stole the set....

I’ve been using these bits for years. And like all bits, eventually, they dull out and need to be replaced. This 16 piece drill bit set is made in Germany, NOT CHINA! While I have purchased the 14 piece, Chinese bit set on occasion, when it was on sale, they do work well. But, for the extra $10(At time of purchase was $28), I find that it is worth it to buy the 16 piece set that is made in Germany. I build docks on a daily basis so, needless to say, I do a lot of drilling. Hope someone finds this review helpful.

What can I say, it's DeWalt. Parts seem to be top notch and durable. Bits run 1/2, 3/8, 5/16, 1/4, 7/32, 13/64, 3/16, 11/64, 5/32, 9/64, 1/8, 7/64, 3/32, 5/64, and two 1/16 in case your clumsy like me and break one :) All in all an excellent intermediate users bit kit for a reasonable price. The case works well and looks durable. The slide lock is definitely preferable to the fold and lock versions employed by other vendors. This is my second case of tools by DeWalt, my first is approximately three (3) years old and the slide lock stills works well and the hinges still function normally.

Deceived by they first picture and good reviews, avoid this seller.

Caution! DW1956=Chinese 16pc, DW1958=German 18pcMy mistake: I thought I was buying the higher quality German DW1958 18pc set.The German-made DW1958 is more expensive, but probably worth the extra money.Haven't used both to compare, but reviews favor the German DW1958.

Used to drill alloy metal to tap for threads and all worked well.

Excellent set. But if that bit catches wood, it’s on auto pilot. It will just take off on its own and go too deep if you’re not looking to clear the material. Holds up well after 3 years.

These drill really fast. They are made to make the hole with one drill bit. If you want to enlarge a hole you still need regular drill bit. But they really worth it.
