Excellent lantern! Very Bright, good battery, easy to use!
My Boy Scout troop recently decided it would be best if we stop using propane lanterns and switch to LED/electric lanterns instead. Reasons for switching to LED/electric lanterns: - Safety: No more concerns about burns, fires, etc. - Simple: No more fiddling around with mantels & no more cross threading fittings - Less waste: No more disposing of green propane bottles I bought three different LED/electric lanterns and my troop used them through our week-long summer camp. It was unanimous that the ToughLight was the best lantern. We then purchased 3 additional ToughLight lanterns for the troop. Key features of ToughLight lantern: - Well built: I cannot stress this enough. We feel this lantern will survive the ‘more extreme use’ that the Boy Scouts tend to put equipment through. - Simple operation: Press button for high, medium, low, flash, off. When lantern is on for a short time – press button once to turn off - It sounds silly but other electric lanterns are not as easy to use/figure out and one ends up getting blinded while they do figure out the operation - Size/weight: Lantern is relatively small size which is nice. It is not very heavy - Don’t think one would backpack with it but it’s lighter than many other LED/electric lanterns - Waterproof: All of our lanterns have been through at least 4 downpours and there is absolutely no water inside Light output: Note: Each of our patrol sites are about 30-40 feet in diameter - We put a ToughLight in each patrol site and it was easily enough light + Low: Good for low traffic times, when Scouts are doing camp game and adults in site + Medium: Good for when scouts are actively around the site. More than enough to see everything (buckets, rope, logs, chairs). This is the setting we used all week at summer camp. + High: Good for when extra light is needed a bit further out. Perhaps collecting wood for setting up camp/fire. We only used this setting as-needed during the week. Battery Life: - We have twice used ToughLight lanterns during our week-long summer camp. The Lanterns EASILY lasted the whole week with at least another 36 hours of battery left. - Summer camp use: ~4 hours per night 5 nights Medium power setting - These lanterns will VERY easily last during a weekend campout EDIT - 1.5 years later: Our troop has been using these lanterns for the past 1.5 years and they have been great! - The scoutmaster notes they still hold a charge and last a long time. - They have proven to be tough - as far as I have seen not 1 part has broken on any of the 4 lanterns EDIT - 3 years later: My troop is still using these lanterns and they are still working as well as when we bought them. - We have 4 lanterns and all 4 still hold a charge very well (sitting on shelf for months at a time) - Still proven tough - still no broken parts on any of the lanterns EDIT - 4 years later: I keep updating my review because these lanterns are fantastic! The company is great and I want to keep supporting them. Hard to believe it was 4 years ago we purchased these. I am happy to report they are all still working very well. My troop goes camping once a month plus a week-long summer camp and these lanterns only require 2-3 charges per year. EDIT - 5 years later My troop is still using these lanterns and they are all 100% intact with no broken pieces. The batteries do take a long time to charge but as noted in my previous updates, the charges do last a long time.

Tough Light is Tough 👍
Charge lasts sitting on the shelf for months. Battery lasts days while in use. Easily chargeable with included cord. I have 2 because we live in extremely rural area with frequent power outages. These are a lifesaver. Worth every penny. Great quality and amazing brightness. Many settings. Charges your phone too.

Latern for outside
This is a great product. I bought the lantern with the search light and they work perfectly. I used one on the patio for sitting outside sometimes and I used the search light for looking for deer before I let my dog out. It appears they have a lifetime warranty also.

Rechargeable Light
Works as advertised. Compact but has a good range. Like the various levels of brightness. And holds the charge for a few days before recharging is needed but not as bright.

Very bright, sturdy, ideal for power outages.
Very bright light - on high setting you cannot look directly at the light. I set it on top of a 6' high book case, put it on high, and it easily gives enough light to illuminate a 12x12 room well enough that you can see to walk, see everything in the room and probably even read (and I am 60 yrs. old, so younger folks will have no problem seeing well with this light). It doesn't light up the room like my ceiling light that has 5 light bulbs, but for emergency situations when the power is out it will definitely do the job. It gives about two times the light of a small coleman brand lantern I have that uses 4 D-cell batteries. It feels sturdy and well-built. Took about an hour to charge out of the box. I've seen several negative reviews that complain that the lantern wasn't charging and was showing a blinking red light after it had been charged - but this is normal. When the light is turned off, the indicator light does blink red (according to the info on their website, this is so you can locate the light when the power goes out). When you turn the light on, the indicator light shows a steady green light until the batteries start to wear down. Another complaint I have read was that a phone charger didn't fit well into the lantern. The instructions on the website say to use the usb cord that comes with the light with your phone charger (they’re talking about the part of your usb-type charger that plugs into the electric receptacle) - the male end of the usb cord that comes with the light is slightly longer than your phone usb cord’s end and it does fit securely into the light. You can even stow the short usb cord provided into the base of the light; it's a tight fit, but it does fit in there. Two usb cords are provided, the female end on one is slightly larger than the other; only complaint here is that the cords are very short, about 8” long. Some have also said that the light doesn't switch from high, to med, to low....I can say that it takes a “light touch” of the button to switch between high/low/med, etc. If you press the button 'hard', the light just goes on or off. I haven't tested it to see if it works after you drop it or submerge it in water, and I probably won't. My use is primarily for power outages, not camping...but I can say it does feel well built – it’s ‘rubberized’, not cheap plastic. The handle for hanging is sturdy and is also ‘rubberized’. It also comes with a plastic D-ring clip that you can hang the lantern from, and a small pop up hook in the base can be used also – both of these feel cheap, but will work for their purpose. The instructions that come with the light aren't very helpful, but going to the website cleared up my questions about the indicator light, charging and using the usb charger cords. Battery life: I got 4.5 hours on high setting before the flashing green indicator came on - which means the battery is between 70%-40%. The brightness of the light dims some as the battery depletes. It’s been flashing green for about 8 hours now and still gives enough light to see well enough to walk around in a dark room. Overall I’m happy with the battery life performance – good enough for 4+ hours of bright light and several hours of dimmer light will serve my purposes for power outages, and the ability to charge it from a vehicle is a plus. This light is a solid 5 stars for me compared to others I’ve had, and I will be ordering more.

It really does last a along time, I tested it out.
Updated June 2020: Big storm - wind, hail, power out (but weirdly, still have internet access) just rolled through . Me, a fully charged laptop and my Tough Light along with a bottle of wine are "happy campers" . I have a calendar reminder set-up to remind me to run-down and recharge my Tough Light every December and June 1st so it is currently fully charged. Undoubtedly the local power company will have us back on line with-in a few hours but it is comforting to know I have light and additional recharge for phone, etc. available for several days should I need it. It has seen me through several Florida Hurricane seasons. One year that involved my taking it to work to recharge as my home was without power for more than a week. This lantern remains one of the best investments I've ever made. I'm considering buying a second to keep in my car. Original review: The 200 hours is at the lowest of the 3 settings of course but even that is bright enough to read by if light is close to book. (Think like kid reading book by flashlight under the covers.) At the lowest level it is probably more appropriate for night-time maneuvers such as safely getting to the bathroom during a power outage. The is a small slowly flashing red light when the lamp is turned off so it is easy to locate even in pitch black. Because there is the option of using the lamp with or without the diffuser and at one of three levels there is quite a range available between task specific and general area lighting. Two things I didn't see addressed in the description or the manual that came with the light was how long it would take to recharge and what indication would it give that it was fully charged so I asked the seller. This was their response: Charging: When charging the unit, the locator light will remain solid RED while charging and turn solid GREEN when fully charged. Charging times vary depending how drained the battery is and what strength of USB charger you are using. A complete charge for 0% to 100% can vary from 4 to 7 hours depending on the strength of the USB charger you are using." The 4 hour estimate was accurate for charging from house circuit. I haven't had occasion to try it out from a vehicle or via a computer USB port.

Small but Mighty!
This has a lot of useful features. Living in Florida, hurricane prepardness is essential! Over the years I have purchased many lanterns ,etc. for use . Since this one is my favorite, I recently purchased a 2nd one. Versatile, portable, easy to use, and a quality item!

Excellent Battery Life, Brightness, Good Warranty
I’ve had this for over a month, using it every night during that period. So far, it has been reliable. Plenty bright, even on the low setting. I have not fully tested the battery duration (the main selling point for me), but have a sense of it. I have used it for 4-5 hours a night, for over three nights in a stretch, without charging, and with excellent results. At one point, the side light got stuck in solid green, meaning I had no indication of the charge level. When I plugged it back in to charge, the light started operating as designed, again. For the price, I would like a metal hook in the base, instead of the plastic. The plastic one has been solid so far. The light from this lantern is brightest from the top (with, or without, the hood attached), meaning the best way to hang it is from the bottom, from that hook. After 30+ days, I am more than satisfied with this lantern. Battery life and brightness are exceptional. It charges well via a 50w solar panel. Claims about shock-proofing and water-resistance have proven true, so far. For a serious camper, probably worth the investment. Backpackers, check the weight, but still may be worthwhile. SEASON 1 UPDATE: Now having completed a season of daily use, I remain impressed by this lantern. It has survived rain, a few short falls, and it just keeps going. The battery life is incredible, and the illumination astounding. I have broken the plastic bottom hook twice since buying it. It should be stable enough for most users—I use it more heavily than most campers. In both cases, the vendor honored the warranty, sending me a replacement base. They were pleasant to deal with, and responsive. SEASON 2 UPDATE: The lantern continues to be reliable, and my main source of camp lighting. The light level is enough for me to do detailed paperwork at night in the forest—quite impressive. It has held up well in over a year of nearly daily use. The vendor has responded quickly to every question, and honored the warranty at every turn. Having gone through quite a few camp lanterns, spending money on replacements and batteries, I recommend making the investment.
