Q: How good would these sound at lower volumes for home use (combined with a sub)? Or do they need to be cranked?

They are great low volume speakers. I have never personally use them at home but I use them all the time at low volumes for private events.

Q: Do I need one or two speakers for Karaoke to have good sound?

According to my experience, I found that QSC CP8 is very excellent speaker, its performance is brillient and it is very very good for very large hall and even a large crowd. I used it in many restaurants with a capacity of about three to four hundred peoples. Sound is very good echo is very good and no humming or any disturbances in the speaker. Syed Sirajuddin

We have a keyboard in the band, and the sound from all instruments is fine. We use this as a monitor, so we maybe haven't listened as critically as our main setup. It's lightweight (Yeah), has clean sound, and is plenty loud for our needs.
